Chase said this game was the most fun he's had playing football since his rookie year!! Hoping that's a sign he's going to want to stay here beyond this year!

Money is important but it's also important to be happy with who/where you work. It's different for each person, but there is a large value to enjoying every day at work. Most people don't understand that cause they don't like where they work - but it changes your entire life.

we spend more time at work than anywhere else - it's important to enjoy that huge portion of your day, and not dread it.

At the end of the day, he's going to go to whoever offers him the most money. Now if the Niners are close, sure some of those other factors may play a part, but I'd think the biggest would be whether or not the team wins the SB. If he gets a ring he'll definitely want to maximize his value. Most of what his next contract looks like will be based on his play this year, so the better he plays, the smaller the chance he's back next year.

He wants to stay and he should

If Chase stays, the chances of him (or Bosa) being doubled or chipped drop significantly. That means fewer injuries and prolonged career.

This is quite substantial.

If young does leave, we could potentially get a better pick back for him than we gave up for him. Lol wild

"Let's assume Young is a rental for the 49ers, and signs a free agent deal elsewhere for, say, $23 million a year in March 2024. It's likely the Niners will get a third-round Compensatory Pick in return in the 2025 draft—unless they sign another high-priced free agent or two, which is unlikely given their current salary structure and need to re-sign their own top players. If Young leaves and the 49ers get a third-round pick in return, the pick would be likely be somewhere in the 97 to 101 range. Let's, for fun, call it the 99th pick.

So this trade could end up being:

San Francisco trades the 101st pick in 2024 to Washington

San Francisco acquires Young for the final nine regular-season games in 2023 and possibly some number of postseason games, plus the 99th pick in 2025.

Imagine getting the benefit of Young for 11 or 12 games—and then a slightly better draft pick than you traded for him."
Would rather keep him, than the dreaded 3rd round pick

We have hit on like 1/12 third round selections since Lynch/Kyle have been here. (Fred Warner).

id much rather keep young. I've always been a big fan of his and I'm hoping him enjoying playing here with Bosa (dear friend), that he is willing to work out a contract that works for us. Our team is crafty and we may just do what we did this year - change a bunch of base salary to bonus and spread it out.

still need to see how he does but I've always really liked young, big fan of his. Mountain of a man

Chase and Bosa could be this generation's Young/Stubblefield, except they're DEs not DTs.

So then maybe Chris Doleman and Roy Barker?

Those guys weren't with the 49ers for very long and were towards the end of their career. Chase and Bosa are entering their prime. But yeah, something like that.

Yeah but I mean Stubbs and Young were only together from 1994 to 1997, right? Didn't he leave after the DPOY award?

Doleman was with the 49ers for 3 years, I thought it was shorter. Yeah sure, Bosa and Chase, like Doleman and Barker. I'm down with that. Need to draft some replacements for Banks, Huf, Greenlaw, or whichever players the 49ers can't retain by paying Chase.

Thats pretty substantial. So whst you are saying is, we can keep all of the A+/A/A- guys if we let the B guys walk. Kinda hurts because I like Banks and Lenoir, but if it means keeping Young, ::Bosa shrug::

We will need to double dip at corner in the next draft along with picking up 4 OL if we are letting Banks walk. Need to get those guys in the pipeline.

What kind of contract do you think Gregory andvLenoir can get and what round comp pick do you think that will net us?

Yeah, possible but I don't wholly agree with that. If we offer him a good amount of money, he may want to stay, even if others are offering him more. There were teams who offered hargrave more than we did.

playing on a winning team, great culture, and talented defense - has a lot of intrinsic value. He obviously wants good money but after playing for Washington his whole career - he may never want to go back to a situation like that.

time will tell, all I care about is if he wins with us rn. If he leaves, sucks but whatever. We will need some good pass rushers next year too. Maybe we can renegotiate gregory and resign Young. Wishful thinking but eff it.

If we keep converting peoples base salaries to signing bonus and spreading it out over 5-6 years, we may be able to. Lol keep doling out cash, jed. Come on baby!

Makes sense. This is how our front office operates and I don't see it changing anytime soon. We keep the A guys and let the B guys and below walk. The only time we let an A player go is when we get great value for them, like we did with Buckner, and I believe they still hate taking that deal instead of making it work somehow.

Guys like K'waun Williams, Laken Tomlinson, Jimmy Ward, DJ Jones, Arden Key, Mike McGlinchey, Emmanuel Sanders, and other solid vets are expendable to this front office and that won't change when guys like Jennings, Banks, Kinlaw, Lenoir, Gregory, and others reach free agency. We take the comp picks and hopefully reload. None of this becomes a problem until Purdy gets paid and forces them to move on from another A-list player like we did with Buckner.

It also means we can't fix any holes in free agency and have to hit on our draft picks if we want to fix the offensive line and secondary because money will be very tight. If you look at the roster though, they're already developing guys to take over for many of these vets that they're expected to lose soon. With the names we were chasing at the deadline, I knew they had the future cap space to add another big name to our long-term plans. We were connected to guys like Johnson, Surtain, and Burns, and I doubt they only wanted them for the short-term with what they would've had to trade to acquire them. If Chase balls out, he's going to be here for at least another 2-3 years.

I'm done doubting this front office. They have shown us that they are very competent and clearly have a plan in place to keep this team in contention for many years.
