- Another thing that I love about Chase Young is since he's been a 49ers, he has did a complete change with how he pass rushes. The knock on him in Washington was that he was an undisciplined player that would consistently get out of his lanes and blow assignments chasing QB sacks. That left the Commanders open to giving up big plays to his side. Chase Young certainly hasn't done that here and has become the total team player. He is great against the run and great at taking on double teams doing the old Cowboy grab and hug to help free up another rusher to get to the opposing QB.
- I also wonder if his snap counts have went down because he could be a little tired. He really never had a true bye week like his teammates. He got traded during the 49ers bye and had to make a cross country move then start learning the playbook, style of play, and getting to know his new teammates. Basically never had a chance to just get away for a week not thinking about football.

He cannot stay undisciplined here because Gregory is right behind him and is ready to step up. Also Bosa set the tone for being the star but stay disciplined, others can't whine. Same for our receivers. If Kittle does not ask for more touches others can't do that.

The guy is fitting in superbly, having him and Bosa on the same team is a real treat. Now, while we still have a starting qb on a bargain contract, I wonder if there is any way that Paraag can talk him into an extension?

Sign him long term to a fair deal. If the leg will hold up. Not a break the bank deal. Because of the medical. But this team is unreal with both of them.

I hope they can figure it out because he is very good and is perfect with Bosa.

I would do an incentive based deal right now if the offseason were today, I still think on the open market he'll command somewhere what Montez Sweat got, $24.5M a year, I'm fine paying him that, now that Gregory's deal voids, we need to keep Chase IMO.

Do you think we can offer a 2, 3 year deal and not have to put up hundreds of millions in guarantees? The idea that, "Hey Chase, yes, you could cash out and get a mondo deal with other teams, but sign with us for a good amount of money, play a couple years with Bosa, get that Super Bowl ring, and test the market again in a couple years when you're 27, 28 years old"?
I believe Mooney kind of has that going on with us. He got a solid deal, presumably will be seen as a top 10 CB when his contract expires after next season, and will be 30 years old.

I could see Chase taking a slight discount here, but he would want a solid 4-5 year deal or certainly something that spread the money where he knows he still get paid even if injury, yet still gives the team flexibility to build around all the stars. I think that's fair risk imo from both sides.
I haven't heard anything about his injury being chronic. In fact I read it's healed and he is simply rounding back into form? I get the hesitation after the Dee Ford fiasco, but he's looked great and worth it.

For the 49ers to retain him at a price that makes sense for the team's cap, I hope he has a lot of fun the rest of this season making him compare and contrast his experience here versus the unknown of another team that won't have his BFF, and the winning culture that he hopefully loves here in SF. Even then, we should never be surprised or upset if a player chases the bag. There are so many 49ers deserving of an extension. Going to be some tough decisions ahead for the front office.

Even if he wanted to sign on for a few years to prove he can be healthy and put up some big sack totals. Then sign a big money contract somewhere else. He has a better chance to do that here than elsewhere. Because of what is around him. Teams could be afraid of the medical. So him doing it for a few years at a slight discount could benefit him too in the long run. He loves the culture and playing with Bosa. I could see it working. If so we should try to get it done.

Yup, all of this.
Just a wonderful time to be a 49er fan that players on contract years... free agents... have to consider... "Man, I could play for a contending team that could win a Super Bowl... I could be part of a team with a great culture and locker room... I could play in a Kyle Shanahan offense... I could play with Bosa... Deebo... CMC... Purdy... Aiyuk...etc. etc"
We are a prized destination and we have things to offer, besides just throwing money at a guy.

I'll defer to others on the specifics of what we could offer him...
But it'll be interesting to see what his market value is. Obviously, a supremely talented edge, but his season high in sacks is 7.5 in his rookie year. 2021, he tore his ACL, so there might be concern about durability. Has a good chance to hit 10 sacks this season.
I'm gonna guess he's going to have some solid contract offers, especially if he continues to play well this year.
