Loved the trade initially but I've been a little underwhelmed with his overall performance. He's not playing a real high level of snaps, I think around 50%ish so I don't think he's the main reason for our defensive turn around. It's clearly been getting Oliver out of the starting line up and Thomas playing at a very solid level.
I love Young's potential but need to see quite a bit more before talks of resigning him. The BA vs Young debate on who to resign is not even somewhat close. Those guys are in different tiers. For me currently, Young seems like a solid player but not this stud that people are making him out to be.
Hopefully some of this potential he has starts to shine at the end of the season and in the playoffs.
There's a lot of truth to this. The dude has unquestionably been a upgrade for the DL, so let's not downplay that. He's brought more juice to the pass rush and sets a harder edge than anyone not named Bosa. But if we're being honest, we were starving for anyone with a pulse opposite Bosa. Kerry Hyder is old and wasn't giving us much; Drake Jackson is f**king terrible. Maybe he'll turn into something in the future(I doubt it), but he's an easy assignment for any NFL tackle. The most intriguing aspect of Chase to me is that the physical talent jumps off the screen. You can see it on the field when he makes contact. The idea of him sticking around under Kocurek to refine his pass rush technique is very tantalizing, and I would love to see it happen.
John Lynch deserves a lot of credit for being able to go from Kerry Hyder and Drake Jackson to Gregory and Chase Young midseason.
i don't think there is truth to it at all.
Since the trade for Young we lead the NFL in QB pressures and sacks

Sign him long term to a fair deal. If the leg will hold up. Not a break the bank deal. Because of the medical. But this team is unreal with both of them.
I would do an incentive based deal right now if the offseason were today, I still think on the open market he'll command somewhere what Montez Sweat got, $24.5M a year, I'm fine paying him that, now that Gregory's deal voids, we need to keep Chase IMO.
I'd love to keep him, but not at $24.5mil/yr. He's a good possibly great player, but that's more than Hargrave signed for. We'd have $100mil/yr just on the defensive line. We'll see how the season finishes, but while he's been very solid and a clear upgrade, he's not blowing me away with his play. Bosa had more sacks last season than Young has in his career.
I wouldnt sign him in 2024. Worry about Greenlaw, BA and Purdy, which would be 2025.
nahhhhh... Greenlaw can walk... in fact we need to invest on some LBs in next year's draft.. ones that can takeover in a year or two..
CHASE gots to be signed.,.., he was often injured AT Washington ..... but that was there.. it MAY be different here..,.and for those who's been following sports for a long time, you just know when a guy has that IT !!
WOOOOOOOOOOOO !! GO NINERSSSSS !!!
Huh, Dre is a must keep with Mooney next year.
Yep. IMO Dre and Mooney are the best non-rookie contract value guys on the team. Dre for $8.5mil./yr is a steal.
Plus with his age, Greenlaw should be part of the future core group. At least for the next 3 years. Also, Greenlaw's intangibles like his character- humble off the field but a freaking lion on the field is hard to find. Between Warner and Greenlaw, I think it's Greenlaw who is closer to Patrick Willis but I said this without taking away anything from Warner. Warner is just a different kind of warrior, he's like the "Ultimate Warrior".
IT'S really Football 101... DE over ILB anytime..
Well this regime has already paid Warner $19M a yr, they'll also pay Dre in the $12M-$14M a yr, none of the LBs signed for next year outside of Fred & Dre are ready to start, you don't let a homegrown player leave who is as good as Dre. As for Chase, they can sign both anyway, and BA, not even an issue. Also the 49ers have done this before with two ILBs, Willis/Bowman were paid top dollar at the time.

He's made a couple of plays since he got here but it looks like this dude has no burst. I don't know if the injury last year took a lot out of him but I thought Young was more explosive than what I've seen thus far with us.

Commander fans claim he has a motor issue.

People still hoping we find a way to re-sign him? How much would he be worth?

He's got like 16 career sacks over 35-40 games with 7(?) this year, but he's got name recognition and potential. Put a SB ring on his finger and his price goes up.
The most recent projection I saw had him around 17.5 APY

I really don't know at this point honestly. He's probably going to command more money than he's worth because of the position he plays, but his play the rest of the season will really determine it. He feels a lot like Jadeveon Clowney where you really expect him to be elite, but he's not just there, and might not ever be there. He's definitely better than anyone else other than Bosa at DE, but he's just been pretty good, not great.

He is still living off his college career and draft status. Nothing elite as a pass rusher and stinks against the run..

I do think the injury is hampering him. I think it will take another year to see his full potential. The talent is there. Its up to John and Kyle to make the final determination - but that will be probably be after the season is over and they have a chance to see his entire body of work for this year.
