Cowboys STC Nick Sorensen Thread

Defense looks almost the same as it did last season and still can't get off the field on 3rd downs and we're not talking about 3rd and 3 but 3rd and 7+.

Whatever we're doing on 3rd downs they need to try something different or figure out what's the issue and get it fixed.

Because it doesn't matter how much better Sorenson is compared to Wilks if they both suck at when it matters most on 3rd downs.

Isn't Sorenson's specialty the Secondary?

I think we're going to See Renardo Green get more playing time considering Isaac Got beat on every big third down

We need Huf back. Having backups and rookies out there with an inexperienced Ji'Ayir Brown is a problem.

Huf will be an improvement, but he still struggles in coverage.

That's what killed them today. The safeties were letting the Vikings catch whatever they wanted.

There's a big difference for me. This is Sorensen second game as a DC. The hope is he will quickly learn and improve. Wilks had like 20 years experience lol

Saleh was ROUGH year one, especially early on.

Yep and honestly we should have signed Simmons when we had the chance. We didn't sign him for lack of $$$, because we have plenty of that. So clearly Lynch and Sorensen thought Brown was good and after 2 games it's clear to me that he's not a good FS.

Simmons starting the year with Brown would have been much better than the current garbage we are putting out.

Let the rookies get their feet wet. The bread and butter come in November and december get that playing time now and they will be ready in those crunch months to play if a vet goes down, September is just a warm up month. Baltimore 0-2 but they will be in the playoffs.

I think it was practical to believe a rookie defensive playcaller would have his growing pains. The safeties today were complete a**. You have to give Flores a lot of credit. He was one step ahead of Kyle all game and had his unit well prepared.

Yes. Having Odom cover Jefferson in slot was some kind of decision. To his credit Jefferson punished that mismatch.

The problem runs deeper than Sorensen and Wilks and I think we have issues with the scheme itself.

The 3rd down defense was at it's worse under Wilks but it wasn't great under Ryans either. We haven't had a great 3rd down defense since Saleh's last season in 2020 where they ranked 3rd in the league.

Since 2020 the highest the 3rd down defense has gotten is 13th. Ryans, Wilks, and Sorensen were carrying on at its core Saleh's defense and I'm starting to think that scheme has hit an expiration date and we might need to look giving someone a fresh canvas to install something new and fresh.

We don't have time for rookie DCs let alone guys like Wilks who were not really a good DC ..

I've seen enough. Super bowl contenders can't be wasting away opportunities by hiring guys like Wilkes and Sorensen.
