I like Elway.

Brock Purdy won Player of the Month twice so far, in less than 1.5 seasons.

So you take Purdy over a rookie John Elway?

Because that's what I said.

I was just wondering. Looking at Elways stats they were mediocre but idk how good the team around him was back then. Either way he had a very talented arm

here is what a posted a page back:

"Take a random box score from 1986 (his first pro bowl season): they won the game 38-17 against KC (who was 7-4) and you assume Elway put up big numbers but he was 15-29 for 196 yards no touchdowns and 3 sacks."

They had the #9 ranked D, went 11-5 and lost to NY in the Superbowl. In the AFC title game he had 244 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT, That one TD was one of the most famous in NFL history. Known as "the drive" it took 5 minute and was 98 yards to tie the game and Denver won in OT.

Doesn't give me to much insight. Seems like the league might of been more run heavy in the 80s looking through stats of qbs from that era outside of Montana and Marino the stats qbs put up were underwhelming compared today

Mediocre compared to what? Once you get pass the numbers Marino put up early in his career or a Dan Fouts, QBs didn't put up crazy numbers like that. You could make a Pro Bowl throwing 19 or 20 TDs. The whole discussion of his numbers reeks of I didn't watch football back then/I wasn't alive back then.

Mediocre compared to his contemporaries. Read the first page or two. I addressed all of this.

I will never compare QB stats across eras, for obvious reasons. But they absolutely can be compared to others IN his own era. And his stats do not compare favorably.

Can you name what contemporaries you are talking about I only see Marino who was probably the best talent ever also might of been in the first air raid offense and Montana who had Jerry Rice and Bill Walsh that really separates from Elway.
