Always liked the Bud Grant teams of the '70s.....'75 was the other killer year (besides '98) for Minnesota, as that team was right there, and the Cowboys pulled off the miracle in the Divisional round - think they had a better shot against the Steelers than the previous season. We'll never know.

Of course, things change.....then came the '80s......and then the ridiculous Walker trade......time always marches on.

Difference is, they actually had a good team in the 1970's under Grant and Tarkenton.....it's just that the Cowboys in the NFC and Mia/Oak/Pitt in the AFC were better.

This Vikings franchise of the last 10 years have had records that are nearly equal to those Vikes teams from 50 years ago, the but the talent is nowhere close. I mean....comparing Fran Tarkenton to Keenum/Darnold?

Oh I hear you - no comparison. Now some of that is just the overall dilution of the league too. I do think this version of the Vikings is better than a couple seasons ago - just play better as a team IMO. However, I don't expect them to get past the divisional round IF they get there.

Darnold playing well right now.

He's played well all season, took about 6 years but all the damn lights finally went on. 32/11 td/int, he never came close to that s**t until now. Can you believe the f**king irony if he gets to the Super Bowl.

It'll be crazy.
Minnesota should not let Darnold leaven in FA. McCarthy can sit

The Vikings have a real decision on their hands this off season. They may seriously consider keeping Darnold a little longer

I got news if they get the 1 seed I think they will get to the Superbowl. No way I let Darnold walk if I were the vikings.

Having Jefferson helps. He's the best wr in football easily.

A little healthy competition never hurt anyone. Letting McCarthy earn it, if he can, by beating out Darnold would be the wisest thing.

Are they? They rank 12th and 17th on offense and defense....which screams smoke and mirrors. That's basically above average and average.....but somehow they are a 14/15 win team? Something tells me that they're living off nonsensical turnovers and such.

Being on the 49ers last year really helped Darnold out he got to sit and learn in a good system. And from a good QB coach.

OH and guess the Vikings GM is from the 49ers organization. Wow
That catch by Jefferson was insane. Sucks that it was called back because of holding.
That would be a "No Loss Super Bowl", except maybe for opposing fans, Vegas, and those betting the game!
Today my wife was watching MTV Sub who was broadcasting the Bills @ Jets game. That was a rarity for a
Finnish network in Prime Time, seeing it wasn't the playoffs or the SB.

So I decided to sit down, and watch with her instead of the RedZone which was streaming on my iMac in my office.
Shortly afterward, the questions started; she's not NFL savvy. She asked, "Who's gonna' win the SB" - I told her the
teams I feel have a chance to get there, so:
Chiefs
Raven
Bills
Lions
Vikings
Packers
Eagles

The conversation got around to the teams who've been to, and lost 4 contest. Which sparked this thought.
If the Viking were to make it to the SB, and somehow win it with Sam playing well, imagine the off-season
for Minnesota! Do they sign Darnold to:
  • A long term deal
  • A fair 2 years deal
  • Dangle JJ Mc for picks
  • Keep both, give Sam a healthy payday, and let JJ sit, learn, and earn his way to QB1
  • Let Sam test the market / walk
Thoughts ...
