Smith Payton and Sanders. 357 from #3

Gonna retire #3 all time.

Have we not learned to not to doubt frank yet? 5 years ago we thought he was done. He's gonna play till teams just don't sign him, he's not chasing Barry he's chasing Emmitt

He's on pace for another 1k this yr, even with a 20 yd dud in the opener. Probably coulda hit 1k last year if Gase gave him the starter job out of the gate instead of splitting carries with Drake for 4 games. Like Frank said a long time ago, as long as you can still "cut and go," that means you can still play at a high level, and he can definitely still do it.

It will probably take another 4 yrs (800+ carries) after this one to catch Emmitt, and by then he could be within 1k of Rice as well. If he hasn't slowed down by then, why would he stop?

Thanks for reminding us what a smart smart move that was to get rid of Frank. Because he didn't fit into Chip Kelly's scheme. Brilliant front office thinking right there. Thanks for mentioning it. Plus we saved a couple million bucks a year. Cherry on the sundae.

They let Gore leave before 2015, which was when Jim Tomsula took over, not Kelly. Hyde was way younger, and was looking like a future pro bowl type talent. Gore was on the wrong side of 30. It was a common sense type move that most any team would've made. People just view it through a nostalgic bias.

All keeping Gore would've done is trapped him on a bunch of losing Niner teams. Im not sure what people think keeping him would've done for us? I think everyone is happy with Shanahan's system, which Gore doesn't fit in.

Ok. You said kelly. Its the kind of move a quant like paraag would do because front office decision makers are fundamentally removed from ops. Theres a thousand reasons to keep frank gore on your roster which have nothing to do with run production. Like, he will probably be your rosters best open field runner. Like, he will probably be your teams best blocker. Like, he will show a lot of pampered high round draft choices how to work for a living in the nfl. Things like that. Giving up on frank easily cost this team a half dozen sacks every year since he left. Would you pay 2m for a lineman that saves you 6 sacks a year? Any front office boob would be all over that. Theres no sugar coating the frank gore contract negotiation disaster. One of the worst moments of the jed york era. Which is saying a lot.
Never ever seen another RB with as many highlights going straight up the gut. All-time combination of vision and burst.

Imagine if he was fast. With the pipsqueaks the nfl is hiring in the backfield these days, he would be taking it to the house three times a game.

Belicheck would figure out a way to get him past Walter Payton.

And all I can think of is 18 year old Frank playing for the greatest college football team ever. What a talent. What a man. What great character.

Let's take it back further. Didn't some people think he was done after the 2010 season (where he had the hip injury and didn't finish)? He was only getting close to 30 at that point and people thought it was over. That was almost 10 years ago....

I mentioned that he didn't fit Kelly's offense, but I never said thats why he was allowed to leave.

The point is, we believed Hyde was the future bellcow back, and Gore wouldn't accept a backup role. Its the right football move to let Gore go seek a starting job. You're letting personal feelings towards a fan favorite get in the way of what made sense at the time.
Surefire hof
I feel he still doesn't get the respect and praise he deserves around the league.

Emmitt Smith? Jim Brown? Hershel Walker?

Frank > Emmitt

Emmitt had the benefit of the Dallas Oline. What Gore and Sanders did is the most impressive.

You're putting it on Frank? I don't remember it that way. I think he was waiting for an offer in the ballpark, and it never came.

And there's nothing sentimental about my analysis. Frank Gore wins football games. That's why he should be on our roster. And it's the only reason. Best open field runner best blocker and he shows up at game time. It was true five years ago and it's true today.
