Pretty much, as long as the victim says they felt threatened of physical violence against them you can be charged with simple assault. I'm not defending anyone without evidence one way or the other but just providing some context. People hear domestic violence and automatically assume someone was hit or beaten.

Yeah I refuse to believe he assaulted a female. That's not his character.

I will withhold judgement until details emerge but I can't see it.

Assault now can mean looking at someone cross eyed. Seriously, assault can be charged for verbal or physical things. Grabbing someone by the arm can be deemed assault.

Sounds like sh*tty cops who got called to a scene and are just covering their asses by arresting someone. Happens way too often and its not like cops are the smartest or brightest, fun fact: you can actually be too smart to be a cop, name another profession that has that requirement lol. Standard procedure is to grab the male and charge him and let the lawyers & courts figure it out. They are liable (in a demoted sort of way) if they dont do anything and then one of the parties comes back and shoots up the place.
