Already thinking of ways to spend the money that would otherwise renew my season tickets for 2011. Plus, I won't be having a major cash outlay that buying seats in the new stadium would surely have required. I'm suddenly loaded!! Think I'll buy a new car...

Fuc*ing Noob. Just read some threads for a while. No typing for you!!
Heh. F*CK off. I'll support a stadium in S.F. till the cows come home. Know why this season derailed? Fans feel like their team is getting jacked, team feels like the fans aren't pulling to keep them. Idiots up in the cushy seats are shopping the team around.
Till the new San Francisco 49ers stadium is built, Go Niners!!

Losing the team to Los Angeles would be devastating. Losing the Yorks, not such a bad deal.

It's not a big deal if it is actually in SF, a lot of teams don't have their stadium in the actual city. Plus, SF is so heavily democratic in their political leanings, there are a million little laws that have to be maneuvered in order to build a new stadium there and the cost is prohibitive.

Cowboys, Jets, Giants all play in stadiums outside of their respective cities.

i feel u sonic. all us sf natives for the most feel the same. but because there are a large number of fans outside of sf so you're gonna get a lot of folks for it. so much logistics involved. the fact is that it's political and imo newsome plays a big part in losing em up to this point. course you see his ass at att park the other night ridin the giants wave...prolly just startin to sink in exactly what feinstein experienced with x5 victories and what it means to the city. even if he did do a 180, he's already left a bad taste with the organization that it'd be double hard to sway em back. hell the team already stated that oakland would be plan b if sc manages to fall thru

I'm sure this point has been made many times but I'll just say it again.... Although Mayor Newsome has alloted land and some other perks to the Niners in Hunter's Point for a new stadium (which, as you stated, would be picturesque), the problem with that location is infrastructure. It is pretty far away from any public transportation (like Muni or BART), and it has no direct exit from any major freeway. Getting in and out of a stadium at that location would be a nightmare...even worse than Candlestick is now.
In contrast, if you look at the Giants ballpark, it is absolutely perfect from an access standpoint. Muni, Highway 280, Ferry service, and the Bay Bridge all converging there... It couldn't be better for Bay Area residents. I visit Marin often and just take the bus into the city for games....easy and convenient.
In Santa Clara, the public access is much better...and there is sufficient parking for NFL fans who like to tailgate.
The point is that, given the limitations of the Hunter's Point site, the Niners chose to expand their options, which I think was a good idea. The ironic part about this story is that the Niners may not be able to get sufficient financing for a stadium in Santa Clara and might be forced to "move" back to SF.
Note to Jed...take Larry Ellison out to dinner...

Uhhh, no it wouldn't. Sure you'd have a point if they just dropped a stadium there and did nothing else but that's not something that would happen. It's a master plan, Lennar is putting in infrastructure needed to support the plan there anyways. Should a stadium be part of the plan, it will just been increased to accommodate an NFL stadium's needs.
The 49ers keep floating this infrastructure issue because they don't want to be in SF, mainly because Santa Clara is going to cost them millions less. They know full well it wont be a problem if they decided to get on board with San Francisco.

Complete and utter BS. If the SF option was really an option, it would be option #1.
The infrastructure you are talking about would NOT be covered by Lennar. They are not going to build access ramps to the site. The cost of the infrastructure alone could surpase the price of the stadium. It may even require a bridge.....something that is astronimical in cost.
Access to Candlestick is BAD. Access to the site where the stadium would be built is MUCH WORSE. There is ZERO freeway access to the old shipyard. Its surrounded on three sides by water.
As "pretty" as it might look, it just isn't feasable.

You're 100% wrong. The bridge over Yosemite Slough (connecting Arelious Walker Drive and Fitch St) is going to be built, stadium or no stadium, and will be started soon. The Harney Way project has already been started and is fully funded (something that will help with traffic and mass transit on game days at The Stick as well). And there's a lot more.
With all they are doing already, stadium or no stadium, the Hunter's Point venue will be much better than Candlestick access-wise.
