Take it for what it's worth, but Ted Robinson was on KNBR yesterday and is convinced something "extra" is going on at CLink for Seahawk games. He's called college games in that stadium, mostly Washington Huskies games, and it's nowhere near as loud as Seahawks games despite being filled to capacity with a bunch of rowdy students. From my experience, college students are louder and rowdier than an NFL fan base. It's not even close. Makes no sense why a bunch of middle-age Seahawk fans would be astronomically louder than any group of humans on the planet.
Sorry if this is continuing the Seahawks discussion, but you have the demographics of these two fan bases flipped. Husky football has been around for decades longer than the Seahawks, and is definitely the team with the most history in the Seattle area. As a result, the fan base goes back many more generations, a tends to be quite a bit older (on average) than Seahawks fans. There are many sections at Husky Stadium where you'll get yelled at by the older season ticket holders if you dare stand during a big play and block their view. Sure, they usually have a decent sized student section, but it is tiny in comparison to the middle-aged wine and cheese crowd that goes to Husky games with their seat cushions in hand.
At Seahawks games, the environment and culture are completely different. As someone else said above, you are expected to on your feet and yelling throughout the game (except when the offense is on the field). The noise is real because almost everyone in the stadium participates to make it happen, old people, young people, everyone. Of course the acoustics of the stadium help out, too. But if you rather believe a conspiracy theory about piped in noise, by all means...
