I came to post this, you best me to it.

Why are they having soccer games on it if it's not ready? Wouldn't that ruin it even more?

Because the games are sold out .

They elaborated, saying it's really dry and hard. Every time the player kicks the ball dirt goes flying, kinda like the Raider stadium

Could have waited... but I guess when they booked the game they didn't see this happening.

No, because since they're dainty soccer players they somehow are able to defy the laws of physics, and therefore will not place any undue stress on the new sod.

But yeah, my buddy is there and texted me that it looks all spotty brown and patchwork like it did for the Chargers game, can see seams everywhere. And that's about the only way I would watch soccer, I actually tuned in just to see the field. Just saw a field-level close-up and it does look pretty chewed up, although don't know if there are huge divots like the Broncos game...just overall not that lush green was hoping to see.

Poor judgement...should've sucked it up, canceled the soccer game and given the grass time to fill in the seams, green up, and take firm hold. That's gonna be hilarious if they have to replace it again prior to next week.

I put the blame on the recycled gray water they've been using. Mexico ftw btw.

Unless there was some kind of proviso in the contract that HEAVILY penalized the 49ers for a postponement or cancellation--which I'd be surprised if they would agree to this--then they should have done just that: reschedule or cancel. Granted they risk losing out on the revenue, but it's one event and considering your first "official" home game is one week away on national TV as the SNF game, I would defer to the safety of my football team and aesthetics of the field for its inaugural event.

Which is why I agree with you they should cut bait with the grass for this season and install FieldTurf. Get the grass figured out in the offseason, don't keep trying to do it on the fly.
Maybe they'll re-do it after the Chiefs game, gives them 3 weeks until the Rams game.
