They didn't build it for shade because it would be predominantly Northern California in the Fall for any afternoon football events. No stadium within at least 100 miles built primarily for football has shade canopies.

The home opener vs Detroit will be a big tell. I really hope the fans show up. No excuse anymore

They are complaining about a couple games early in the year, other than that it's fine.

Bought tickets on the east side of the stadium for the November 12 game last year against the Giants. It was so hot that Most of the fans ditched their seats for the shaded under hangs by the end of the 2nd Quarter. That was the game before the bye week, so people are complaining about half the season, not just a couple games early.

Maiocco asked why it wasn't possible to add something structurally to Levi's Stadium that would give fans some relief from the sun.

"I would say a lot of it stems from the FAA regulations. Structurally, what I would tell you is even if you could do it, it would take years to build to get something up there. To hang something 230 feet or [240] feet from the air, it has to be a structure. It can't be a sunshade or an umbrella or anything along those lines. It actually needs to be substantial."

LOL

A giant umbrella at the 50 wouldn't work? Maybe we should get some of those misters for each seat for those people who can't stand the heat.

Talks about it in the interview. Would cause a slip hazard on the concrete.

That's a b******t answer. There are tons of floor surfaces that meet ANSI standards for slip resistance when wet.

I haven't been to Levi's yet, so I don't have an opinion on the heat, but that answer is garbage.

According to historical data, the high in Santa Clara on Nov. 12, 2017 was 68 degrees

Pretty sure the shade answer is a lie too. It wouldn't be cost effective, at all, and it would take major construction and a chunk of time, but I highly doubt it is impossible as he claims.

You live in NorCal? It's hot as f**k through October if you're sitting on the sunny side of the stadium so it's more than just a couple of games. Just super dumb to not have considered that.

Exactly it's hot & humid as f**k. I was wearing my stupid ass Bowman Black alternate jersey during the opener last year vs Carolina and nearly passed out in the lower section. I'm from the central valley where its 100 degrees during summer and I'm used to the heat but there is just something about this location and the location of the sun beaming on us. I mean it didn't help that I had been drinking a bit but still..

It's not a lie - if the airport wasn't there they could build one. But because they can't build much higher than the current height of the stadium building any kind of roofing superstructure - which by necessity would need to have higher points - just isn't possible. It's the combination of FAA regulations with the support structure that would be needed that makes it impossible.

LOL. Exactly.

So this leaves only two possibilities:

- 68 degrees is "so hot" that fans need to ditch their seats, which means this reaction to 68 degree weather being some unbearable condition was IMPOSSIBLE for the team to predict. Who would ever think that 68 degrees is hot enough to need shade? Certainly not the planners of an open air stadium in a region where ALL football stadiums are open air stadiums for a few hundred miles radius.

- People are turning up the hyperbole a bit because the team wasn't good enough to keep their interest.

I mean, it is obviously they just don't want to spend the money. Dolphins are already doing it:

Not sure what to tell you bro, I was there and it was much hotter than 68 degrees. That sun absolutley bakes you.
I feel like you guys who are acting like hardos and think there is not a sun problem at Levi's havent't actually been to Levi's stadium. And if you have, you haven't sat on the East side on a sunny day. Like, I am speaking from experience, it's not a fun time.
