But then can you at least agree that if 68 degrees "bakes you" that it would be impossible for the 49ers to predict that 68 degrees would need shade to cool people off? I know if I see that a November day has a high of 68 degrees I'm thinking that's perfect weather to watch a game while out in the sun. Who can plan for 68 degrees feeling like 110 degrees to some fans?

they did predict it, that's the issue. It was recommended to York to change the stadium design but he wanted to press forward and just put the stadium in, using the stadium design that was originally designed for candlestick park weather.

Lie. They did NOT predict 68 degrees would feel like 110. That's an impossible prediction.

Now, did they predict it may get a little warm from time to time? Sure. But they also were thinking with the same mindset of every Northern California football stadium ever built. Their sin was in not predicting how entitled 21st century fans would be. They didn't do it to be cheap or meanies - they did it because it was the standard every stadium in the area had been built under for decades. It's an oversight in not being able to predict an aberration to the norm of the whole area of Northern California, which by definition is an unusual circumstance.

So, people need to let if the f**k go about the shade structure. Not. Gonna. Happen.

Now, could they look into other solutions? Sure. Maybe they install A/C under all the seats and just pump cool air throughout the whole section and just deal with the electric bill. Maybe they look into different glass for the tower across the way that would reduce the reflection of the sunlight or alter the angle of the reflection. Or, my favorite idea, they change the seats to have a personal fan on the back that can be turned on if needed. They cannot build up and over, so maybe they can figure out an alternate way to appease the fans. (Heaven help them if they leave that A/C on in December and get "too cold and breezy" complaints...)

68 degrees at Levi's does not feel like 110. GTFOutta here with that. lol

How come the niners didn't knock down the stadium at the stick and rebuild on the same site????
Educate me SF fans, I'm LA based niner fan.

in going to a few games, i would say the heat isn't the issue, its the sun and there's no real fix for it

Bro that spent over a billion on the stadium, and its only a couple years old. They don't want to knock it down lol

Few reasons come to mind immediately:

1. The land at Candlestick's location was owned by the city.
2. The street access was terrible, so building a stadium there would have just replaced the heat complaints with the traffic complaints like Candlestick always had.
3. The government of the city is very liberal and was against any kind of reasonable financial aid to build a new stadium.
4. Let's say they decided to build the new stadium there. Well, the only place to build it while still playing games at Candlestick is to build over the already limited parking area. Which means they would have had a zoo figuring out how to get people to the stadium on game days. The other option would be to have the team play at another location for 4-5 years while they bulldoze Candlestick and then build the new stadium on the same footprint, which would hardly be a popular choice.

The truth of the matter is that Levi's is easily a better stadium than Candlestick in every measurable except for the hotter weather (which has more to do with a lack of breeze/clouds than actual degrees, IMO), and the product on the field so far in 2014-2017. Everything else is vastly superior - traffic, parking, bathrooms, concourses, filed viewing angles, technology services, etc.

What are the actual regulations preventing this out of curiosity?

Hats, glasses, and building in some AC/fans may help mitigate it. A natural breeze and some clouds would make a huge difference to the perception of direct permeating sunlight. They can't build a shade structure to simulate the latter, but they could probably figure out how to partially simulate a breeze.

Again: mini-fans for the fans!

FAA regulations about the height of structures close to the landing paths of planes going into/out of San Jose International. My understanding is that Levi's current height is right up against the limit.

I'm referring to years ago when the site was determined not now

There's nothing the Niners can do about fans complaining that 68 degrees is too hot though lol
How is it that NOBODY ever complains about the sun at Stanford Stadium . Nobody , not the fans , not the students , not the local media , not the national media , not the visiting teams . Stanford is about 12 miles away as the crow flies yet no one ever complains about the very same sun shining down on the games there. Why ? Tougher fans ?
Unbiased media with no ax to grind ? ( pun intended ).
Just wondering .
