How do you teach "tough minded football" ?

Singletary keeps talking about how he wants a "tough" "physical" team, but how do you teach that? What do you think he does to get them to play like that?

I'm thinking.. the hill.. and his military style practices. fast pace, ect.

What do you guys think? I'm curious because it seems like it's how people view the game, like you would need people with that attitude.. that you can't really just teach them to be physical. I don't know. Just thought it was interesting to think about.
Also Practice. It's important to work hard at it, because it makes you better. And in ota's the guys slacked off, fine i agree lets run i like it. I like the idea of the hill. Next year i suggest a mountain. haha Also just going out and hitting guys and just giving your body. CANT WAIT FOR TRAINING CAMP! Is coffee going to be legit. this will test him to see if he can break first contact and pic of yac and vd better see the ball a lot and look sweet, grow up be a captain and don't do things that give your team flags.
you slap the crap out of the players and when they start crying you ridicule them till they stop and play like men
One day during the last OTA's, one player was walking off the field after practice instead of running like what Singletary wants. He made the entire team do some more sprints. He's also brutally honest with the players and they all know he was a better football player than they are.
It is really quite simple, you make practice harder than the actual games, then you have a tough team.I think Singletary will work our roster until they are one of the toughest rosters in the NFL.There are gonna be teams this year that are gonna be in for a shock when they line up against us this year.

Starting with Arizona! I hope.

I think Singletary has done a great job of restoring a winning culture--and getting rid of the country club atmosphere of the previous administration. Even more than hard practices, its about a mindset. IMHO.

More than just a master of motivation, Singletary appears to be a very determined man who's going to insist on his team being extremely well conditioned, and extremely mentally focused when on the playing field, whether at practice or during games. Mentally tough as well as physically tough.

We have yet to see what schemes the team will utilize on offense, but what we've seen so far reinforces the hope that things will be better without the previous HC (addition by subtraction) and better with Singletary (addition by addition).

I agree...there's not much difference in athleticism between every team in the NFL. There's a lot more parity in that regard that people think IMO. I'm completely on board with Sing's sense of urgency in every practice because it turns a near win into a near loss when the season rolls around.

It is simple they have faith in him and respect him..
(The Crabtree incident and V. Davis sideline incident) They are inspired by his presense and are eager to impress him and themselves. If you've ever played the game, you know this and feel this on game day and practice.
Then when you start playing better and harder and have a a MAN like Singletary on the sideline, it causes a domino effect and I'm sure most of you felt it as fans as soon as he took over..
Can't wait till week one to see what he has molded.
only Sing knows
You hire Mike Singletary to coach your team and beat the crap out of them mentally to keep them straight!
Make em run
Make em' nails for breakfast, glass for lunch and make em' sleep on the floor during training camp. That should toughen them up.
You beat the hell out of them on a regular basis. That way, when another team is doing it to them, they're ready for it.
