We've all heard that Sing is intending to play ball control and utilize Gore and Coffee behind a bigger, mashing OL. So where does that leave the development of Morgan and Crabtree? And VD?

Admittedly, for the past few years, the Niners have not really had a weapon besides Gore. Now, they really have some young talent and can have some defenses back on their heels.

Will they play ball control and grind it out and will they open it up a bit and stretch it downfield?
Ideally both
People are taking this ball control thing out of context. Sing is going to go with what works. He knows you cant run all the time, there will be a nice mix. Running the ball consistently will open up the pass. Jimmy Raye admitted that you cant run the ball all the time.

They are going to find out quickly that you can't grind it out in this league.I don't know who they think they are kidding. You have to take what the D gives you.It won't be long and they will be putting the ball in the air.

He's said repeatedly that what he wants is to be able to grind a team down with the run late in the game, not that we're going to be a run-first offense. In fact, Raye said ideally we'd have a balanced attack.

Absolutely right. It will be a balanced attack. Fret not, our receivers will have their opportunities. Let's hope they, and the QB (Hill?) will make the most ot them.

I think that when Sing says that he wants ball control he is going back to what he learnedfrom Bill Walsh. Walsh said that he wanted to use the run to set up the pass and I think that he did that very well.
Raye said that he didn't put in all of the plays yet because he wanted to see what his players could do. I think that this is smart. Back in 1983 I got to share a table at an airport with Joe Montana, and he said that he was luck that he was drafted by a coach that only used plays that he could excell in. I feel that Raye is trying to do the same thng.
Maybe Sing is doing what BW said. I sure want to think so
Go Niners
He has never even suggested that he wants to run all the time. What he's said is that he wants to be able to run when he wants to run. Even when the opposition knows you're going to run, he wants to be able to run. We all know what this means - when he's holding a lead in the fourth quarter, he just wants to grind the opposition into submission and run out the clock. Sounds good to me.

thank you. he has never even said 50-50, he has basically said, when it is 3rd and short he wants to be able to run the ball. if it is a 90-10 pass to run, but those 10 is the game clinching clock burning part of the game, he will be happy.

Bingo.

People are reading too much into the quotes.

I don't care how they do it as long as the players with the most abilities get the balls in their hands more than others. The Broncos and Eagles and many other teams get their talented rookies or players into plays that allow them to get touches. Nolan's sorry arse couldn't fathom how to do this.

Just get the damn ball so that VD can catch it, get it to Gore, get it to Crabs, get it to Morgan and get it to Delanie.
I think he is looking for a more balance offense that it's main focus is ball control

And as I have been saying for months... Those that actually listen to Sing and Raye speak, know that the offense will be balanced and not a run ,run, run offense.

Here is Brandon Jones speaking about the 2009 Niner's (Jimmy Raye and Sing ) offense. (after he has seen the playbook and gone through the installation of the Raye offense and all the mini-camps and OTA's etc.).

“You’re going to be given the chance to go out there and make plays. A lot of balls are going to be in the air,” Jones said of his role in the 49ers offense. “It’s not just a pound, pound, pound team. You’re going to get an opportunity every day because we’re going to throw the ball around a lot.”
Sing wants a team that can get that 3rd and 1, 4th and goal. How effective were we at that last year? He wants a team that can run the ball even when the defense expects it.

I really wish people will actually pay attention and not assume that statement to be a run at all times, run at all costs. There isn't a wanna be coach out there that believes that is possible in the NFL. Let alone a HOF player.

Our receiving corps will get plenty of work and make that run game so much more effective.
