because i feel that Franklin isnt at a level of dominance, plus he is just a nolan guy.
I would love to trade maybe a 2nd for Shaun Rodgers.

Definitely would have a dramatic boost to our D to have a good NT. The NT position is crucial to a 3-4 scheme. Franklin's play, however much improved, is still a liability.

I voted no.
The reason should be clear enough, but here goes. In the first half of the season last year we were running the hybrid 3-4. Guys were often out of place and we got scored on quite a bit. Exit Nolan stage left even.
The second half of the season Sing had had enough and gave this Defense a face by sticking to a base 3-4 system. Manusky having worked within that system helped implement the change and the DLine coach had an easier time getting the guys on the same page.
We saw a better Defensive front as a result of this move or lack thereof. So imho I think that we need to see what we got before we start fiddling with it. Cause once we've fiddled with it and it doesn't work?

I think he's going to have a very good year this year, he starting looking really good after Singletary took over last season, without Nolan this year we are going to see a much different team, I have a feeling.

Always the motivational concern, but he played very well, but with a very bad supporting cast in Cleveland. Singletary would make sure Rogers continued to play hard, and when he gives even 3/4 the effort, he is FAR superior to Franklin's best efforts.

Do we need an upgrade at NT? No: Franklin is solid.
Would an upgrade be nice? Yes: The NT is very important in a 3-4, if we could get all-pro play from the position, we would have a scary defense.

Besides free safety, this is absolutely our biggest area of concern on defense. Considering we run the 3-4, a Haloti Ngata type of player is essential. Forget trying to shuffle around the players we have in hopes of finding a solution because the right player just isn't on our roster, yet.

YES.
Franklin is a stop-gap, nothing against the guy but a NT needs to demand double teams and Franklin does not do that.

Overall, no real disagreement, but
Our FS spot could work itself out with Goldson staying healthy and an improved pass rush. I do think FS is questionable spot #3 behind NT and OLB though.
My true hope is that Sopoaga at NT or even a surprise candidate like Balmer/Mitchell/RJF can play a mean 1-gap NT. (we never really saw Sop play 1-gap)
