In all honesty how many years until we will be a contender for the SuperBowl!!!

Baby steps. Let's talk about simply making the playoffs first.

We honestly don't know what we have at QB, head coach, OC, and much, much more.

imho.... if alex really ends up deserving and earning the spot.... this year. if he wins that means he is close to his potential!

If the Cardinals could do it last year, i see no reason this team couldn't do it this year, provided all things fall their way as they did for the Cardinals, so basically, possible but not very probable.
I agree with the poster who said until we have a legit QB we are not going to the SB. That's why I don't feel the Bears overpaid for Cutler. I wish the 49ers would have made the move!

The bears have Cutler, but who has he got to throw to?They are a team on the decline,we will win a superbowl again before they do.If Cutler couldn't get the Broncos to the Superbowl, how is he gonna do it with a crappy offense around him?

I voted for 8+, so I guess I am a douche. What most of you are denying is that a
HUGE part of this team's 5 Super Bowls was the free spending owner + no salary cap.
On top of that Eddie D treated players like family, throwing parties, buying Christmas
presents for player's kids, etc, etc. The way Eddie treated players would probably get
them to stay around for less money than they could get elsewhere, the current ownership does none of that. Getting players to play for less than they could get elsewhere is important in this salary cap era, I do not think current ownership can do that unless they change the way they do business. The importance of sound management and coaching is forever magnified these days, and I don't think the 49er organization is on the level with the current list of perennial contenders, and until it is
we have no shot at going all the way. Because of ownership the 49ers in the Eddie D era were like the New York Yankees of baseball are now, unfortunately that is no longer the case.

NO DOUBT

I don't have a calculator near by maybe you can help me out. How many years ago was 1994?

Reality is not depressing at all once you learn how to accept it. The 49ers SUCK and my life is great

you need a calculator for 2009-1994?

Unfortunately, this franchise has become accustomed to falling into the trap of "one step forward, two steps back."

Although we have a semi-solid roster, we're putting it in the hands of Jimmy Raye, an inexperienced coach who hasnt done much during his tenure in this league. And sure, yall can gripe about him being a long term solution (as opposed to the Norv Turners and Mike Martzes of this world who become head coaches in 1-2 years), but this was the same mentality that got us stuck with Jim Hostler. Oh, and for those that say, "hey, that was Nolan's guy and thats why he sucked", just keep in mind that Mike Singletary TOO was a Nolan guy.

Dont expect much from this squad for a very long time..................

You need someone to point out where the sarcasm was in that statement! Let me give you a hit it wasn't the part about the calculator!
I'm hoping within 2 years, but Singletary may speed up that process. Here's to hope!
Contend for the superbowl, not sure on that one yet

but this year possibility of wildcard playoff berth, definitely playoffs next year.

Damn i miss those years where we were top 3 in defense and offense.

I wonder if those times will ever come back?

i voted 3 years... i figure if the QB situation doesn't pan out this year, we will draft one of those Big 12 QBs, hopefully Sam Bradford, next year with our 2 first round picks.. then we can continue to develop young players, get some more game changers in the draft and build up the team until we can contend in a few years..

HOPEFULLY we make the playoffs this year and go on a cardinals-esque run but we don't have Warner or Fitz/Boldin so i doubt it
25 - 50 years from now.
