According to the draft he was not the best player.

and according to the draft DHB was a better WR

No, according to the Raiders he was the better WR.

Like Jed said during the preseason game, "When he wants to be here, he'll be here"

In other words, there is an offer on the table, and when he decides to sign it, we'll welcome him with open arms. Definitely sounds like a take it or leave it offer.

I'm all for letting him sit out the entire season if that's what he wants to do. It would suck to lose that draft pick, but at least we wouldn't be overpaying more than teams already do with their 1st round picks. Not only that, but it would be a positive for the NFL in the long run, as it would almost guarantee a future rookie cap, to protect teams from this sort of thing.

Parker is going to cost a lot of future players $$$, as this will certainly work against the players union when negotiating a new CBA. Of course that means less dough in his pocket down the road as well.

You obviously do not know Eugene Parker very well. I encourage the skeptics to do a background search on his clients and cases in the past. I think you will come away very impressed. I know I was.

You state that Parker is going to cost a lot of future players money, but this is an institutional problem that started way before Parker, and will continue down the road until the player's association decides to let the league create a rookie salary system. And, Crabtree is not the only guy who has not signed.

In that the media has been fixated on him before, during, and after the draft, it shows that this player is very unique to the league. And, due to that unique situation, a unique contract has to, and will be, constructed.

Not to pick on you, but there seems to be an overwhelming sentiment that Niners' management is so much tougher than Parker. I beg to differ. The guys on the Niners' side are relatively young and inexperienced, while Parker has been doing this for a long time. A group of young pups are not going to crack an old vet who has faced much more experienced, savvy and grizzled GM's around the league.

Damn dude, why don't you just give the guy a bj already? Seriously, you seem to be rooting for Parker over the organization here and ignoring the fact that he and Crabtree have no leverage. He's making a bold play and the Niners are doing a great thing by standing pat. Show some respect for the organization you root for. This would be a great step forward for the Niners management to stand firm when they are making a fair offer, by all accounts. You seem to WANT the mighty Parker to win and to show how naive and inexperienced our organization is.

In MD's defense, I think that he is overemphasizing Parker's credentials and background in response to the flood of "Parker SUXXXX, NINERZ RULE!@!!" type posts. Hype meets hype and all that jazz.

In any event, if anyone would like to check out Parker's web site, here it is - http://www.maximumsports.com/

Note that Chilo Rachal is a client.

Finally, I think that everyone needs to take a step back and realize that only a few people - Parker, Crabs, Scotty, Parag (sp?), Jed, etc. - REALLY know the details here. The rest is, on some level, speculation.

From Parker's Bio:
"Protecting his client’s best interests is always a number-one priority."

Okay, well, we are well into the realm of debate that this holdout is not in Crabtree's best interests, when you look at the long-term big picture, as opposed to squeezing as much up-front money out of this initial rookie contract.

you roll your eyes but according to the draft the better players get drafter first. hence the term Best Player Available. So by that logic with DHB getting drafted before Crabtree. The Raiders felt that Crabtree was the better receiver.

Yes, according to the Raiders he was a better WR. - you cut that part out of the quote.
THE RAIDERS
not the whole draft, probably only 2-3 teams would have chosen DHB ahead of Crabtree.

I think it would be fair to speculate that they offered him guaranteed money worth the 10th pick with the overall contract being larger then some of the earlier drafted players. I wouldn't be surprised if the contract in it's entirety is larger then DHB's but that the guaranteed amount is located in the range deserving of the 10th pick.

it doesn't matter what the other teams thought. According to the DRAFT!!!!!! DHB is a better WR. If Crabtree turns out to be a better WR during his NFL career if he ever signs and starts it than all that does is solidify his thoughts and opinion that he is the better WR.
not looking good

Are you kidding me? Why should the niners screw up the slotting system and piss off the other teams because Crabtree uses the logic of a 12 year old?

Seriously the more I think about it the more it pisses me off "I was supposed to go higher so I should get paid more" WHAT?????

He has NO leverage at all other than the 49ers don't want to waste a first round pick. If he wants to sit out the season he will lose at least 10 million dollars and a year, I can gurantee that.

He wouldn't even be the top receiver next year without the concerns everyone would now have about his signing. He need to wake the f up and swallow his pride. Get his ass into camp so he can salvage his season in any way possible.

if he thinks he's going to come in and have the starting job handed to him he's in for a rude awakening. And if he's just stalling because he doesn't want to practice then ladies and gents we have a big problem in this kid.

Crabtree has a lot to loose if he holds out the whole season to re-enter the draft. It is my understanding that if he holds out the whole season the 49ers do not loose his rights untill the commencing of the draft. THIS MEANS THAT IT WOULD BE HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT THE 49ERS LET HIM WORK OUT FOR ANY TEAM. This means that he would not only hold the stigma of being selfish but drafting teams would still not know his 40 time among the other things. In my opinion there is no way he would go in the top 10 and I think it would be completely likely he could drop out of the first round meaning he wouldnt come close to sniffing the amount of money being offered now.

I believe the 49ers have set the money bar and its his money to loose come the start of the season.

I have no problem offering him top 5-7 overall contract money as long as the guaranteed amount stays with in the slotting system and falls in the 10th range. The guaranteed amount is really the signature piece of the slotting system not the AYS amount. Its a bit head disconcerting that Crabtree and his agent are more worried about grabbing a few more mil guaranteed rather then maximizing achievable contract incentives.

Contract talks between Bills, first-round draft pick Maybin remain stalled

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Contract talks between the Buffalo Bills and first-round draft pick Aaron Maybin are stalled, and neither side is offering positive signs that a deal is close.

Neither the team nor Maybin's camp will offer specifics on how far apart they are, but the Bills are becoming concerned that the defensive end, selected 11th overall out of Penn State, will not report soon enough to be ready for the regular season in less than four weeks.

.....

Bills general manager Russ Brandon has declined comment except to shake his head "No," in what'= has become a daily response to questions of whether there are any developments in negotiations with Maybin.

Maybin's agent, Chafie Fields, maintained his position against publicly discussing the status of negotiations in a brief telephone interview Monday night.

The Bills have three preseason games left. It's unlikely Maybin will sign in time to play Saturday, when Buffalo travels to Green Bay to meet the Packers.

"That's tough because we'd obviously love to have him here," Bills linebacker Paul Posluszny said. "Hopefully, we can get him in here soon, but it's definitely getting to the point now where we need him in here."

Posluszny was a senior at Penn State when Maybin was a redshirt freshman. The two have kept in touch by text message.

"Every time he sees us play, he's dying," Posluszny said.

This is crap! If he wanted to be out there so bad, he would sign his contract and get his ass in camp, just like a certain WR who shall remain nameless!
Yea i agree with you there, if he really wants to play that bad hell sign the contract.

No, he can't do that. Or else, his agent will lose all credibility as a tough negotiator and lose future clients.

Remember, this is all about the agent.

exactly you all didn't know that the client works for the agent not the other way around?
Ya know, I don't even get upset over the actual holding out. I get pissed at the sorry excuses for holding out.

"I'm just trying to provide for my family."

" I just want whats fair."

So, your telling me that $20 million won't provide for your family? Maybe you should talk to your family about their spending habits.

Fair? Why don't you work for me and take my salary and I'll go play football for alot less "fair" contract than what you are pissing and moaning about.

Trying to pass off their greediness is what really pisses me off.
