This is a great example of why athletes should never ever let family members or close friends get involved in their professional careers.
He has an agent - a well-known agent - who is handling his contract negotiations. His agent was doing fine managing things behind closed doors but he was forced to come out and publicly say "Hey this is the first I've heard of this" which puts him in a precarious position because now you need to wonder who's really running the show here?
Crab's cousin is clearly a dumbass. The statement that he's prepared to sit out the entire season gave him no extra leverage whatsoever.
The public knows this. The team knows this. His agent knows this.
If he sits out the season not only does he get set back a full year of playtime but he loses a full years worth of salary which is roughly 20% of what he would sign for (if you assume a 5 year rookie contract). There is no way he would make up the difference if he re-entered the draft next year unless he ended up being a top 1-2 pick which is not going to happen - in fact it's very likely that his value might drop if he falls out of the top 10 which would garner him an even smaller contract.
He's getting hammered in the media and public opinion of the guy is already turning sour. If he were smart he would step in front of the camera and say "Look my cousin is an idiot and I apologize for his comments. I'm looking forward to playing for the Niners real soon and I know my agent, who is the only person that knows anything, is working hard to make that happen. Thanks".

Meh...Brandon Jones would've been like #3-4 on the depth chart at best anyway.
If Bruce or Morgan were out I'd be worried but we have Hill and Battle that can step up if need be.
It was getting crowded back there.

this will prob speed things up for Crabs. we have seen what Battle brings to the table eh and Hill would be good but not as much of an impact as Crabtree in the slot would be.

The funny thing is that the 49ERS and Crabtree's side will probably meet somewhere in the middle with regards to the money. That probably would have happened anyway even if his cousin hadn't made the stupid threat. I doubt that the 49ERS hold fast to #10 type money.
Personally I will welcome him just like Singletary will do when he finally gets into camp. I bet most of you will lay the anger aside if or when he becomes a productive WR for the team.
The management is not going to cave in to a diva WR. You can thank TO for that.
Like I said the team will meet his agent somewhere in the middle or closer to Bey's contract. I doubt very much if they take a hard core stance on just paying #10 but we will see. JMHO
Brandon Jones being out for 8 weeks may influence things ever so slightly.

Haha sucks to be you. I was thinking of buying his jersey but I had a bad feeling man. This dude has the T.O. syndrome. Return it for number 52 baby. Support a real player that has proven himself. Not a broke foot rookie that hasn't even caught a pass.

It is a good idea to usually wait until there is some production from the player first. I am still waiting for the production of V. Davis and A. Smith but I nailed it on P. Willis so far. 33% isn't what I was hoping for ------ but that could still change.

I tried to not give this too much thought because ultimately it is all posturing but its getting silly now. Frankly if he is prepared to sit out the season then let him. That is not someone who wants to play football. That's someone that wants money.

I would never buy a rooks jersey, especially one who isn't signed. I waited two years before I decided to get a P. Willis jersey

as we all know several players have taken significant pay cuts to their salary to STAY and play for our team...
and this kid can't even get his arse on the field because he wants to get paid. if he does receive any significant upgrades to his guaranteed money, it'll be those veterans dollars he'll be stealing.
i know, i know he won't be directly stealing from the VETS, but i'm sure that WILL be the feeling in the locker room.
GO NINERS!!!
