This game will serve as an example of what can happen to a team that plays too conservatively, concentrating more on lack of mistakes than on finding ways to score.

Denver had about the worst game imaginable, and is not more than a fair team to start with. Their coach and their personnel decisions are suspect. Still, they damn near won.

Now, it is early and it is preseason and keeping it simple is understandable. Still, the team also has to learn to step on the throat of struggling opponents and pour it on. If opponents are allowed to stay close, all it takes is one missed assignment or turnover and they can win it.

Hopefully, the 9ers will rev it up as the preseason progresses.

Well, during the regular season, lets hope Jimmy Raye is teaching our offense about "killer instinck".... once you get the lead you don't stop, pile it on baby, pile it on!
No s**t, ya think? ITS PRESEASON!
It's preseason, it will get better for sure!
damon huard was throwing the football to michael spurlock and a recently converted linebacker, and our 4th string running back was in(though he it seems he really was a snag FA)..

i think the 2 grabs by vernon were more of a sign of whats to come, not to mention our running game is going to be even better than it has been with both gore and coffee running the ball..

preseason is never an indicator of whats to come in the regular season, but for some reason people seem to forget that every single year..
It was just a preseason game. Wins are nice during the preseason, but player evaluations and scheme analyses are what really need to be focused upon.

Yep. The Lions went undeafeated last pre-season. Means nothing.
We arent going to use our play action or blitz schemes in preseason. It's been like that forever. But every year people freak out. Relax! What we need to worry about is execution and overall for a first preseason game it looked solid.

Yep, some people never seem to get the idea that preseason isn't about wins and losses, it's about player and scheme evaluation. Coaches will often run plays with little to no chance for success, just to evaluate how players react under duress.
The Niners are simply not a good foot ball team YET.....

To have 3 interceptions, and only win by the skin of your teeth is unacceptable. I also think letting the clock run out at the end of the half was questionable. They could have tried a two minute offense to get in FG range or heaven forbid a TD.

Also first drive, 4th and 1, who cares, go for the first, see what your first unit can do. Put up TD's, not FG's.

The Niners need to start beating average teams by 14 point or more before they can start beating playoof teams.

I agree with most of this, if the main concern is analysis and not winning why not go for it a little so the players have a little experience when they NEED that 1st down or to go 90 yards in 90 seconds to win the game?? As for trying to blow people out in the pre-season I am not too worried about that, but I want to see them try to score as much as possible. We have not had a scoring team since Garcia and Owens left town.
