as you all know, Patrick Willis is the coolest dude in the NFL, and possibly the best defensive player in the entire league.

one thing i saw today that i never realized, is that Willis has just 1 penalty in all 3 years of his career. he had his lone penalty his rookie season, and has since played perfectly fundamental and clean defense.

not to mention hes ranked 2nd, 2nd, and 1st in the NFL among ILB overall statistically in those 3 years. 07 he was beat out by Kirk Morrison, and in 08 he was edged by none other than teammate Takeo Spikes. At least as far as Profootballfocus.com's stat crunching projects.

obviously its no secret hes awesome, but the 1 penalty in 46 career games kind of shocked me.

according to their overall position ranks.

but they take about everything into account. according to their numbers, Vernon Davis is listed as the 53rd best TE this year, because while his TD's and yardage are amazing, hes been so awful at run blocking, and committing penalties, his value based on what his position is supposed to do is apparently very poor.

VD has committed a NFL high 11 penalties this year among TE, which is also the highest total by any offensive player in the NFL, not including OL.

obviously i think thats a load of crap, since what hes done for our offense greatly outweighs his poor blocking and penalties, but from a statistical point of view, he isnt a prototypical all around TE.

same here. I'm convinced the niners will lock him up for the majority of his career. He'll also go on to be a niner great.

How has he gone from one of the best blocking TE in the league (according to Sing last year) to one of the worst. Doesn't make sense.
