That's a nice set for your cave. I was an assistant manager for Fanzz a long time ago so I would see everything that people would purchase. I've also seen so many NFL collections it's ridiculous. Both private homes and public businesses with nice collections with helmets included. Man caves are popular these days so some of these dudes get an entire garage or den filled with merchandise for the game every week.

Your collection sounds awesome though man, you should post some pics and start a thread maybe for 49ers collections and/or man caves. They have one on the other 49ers forum and that's another place I've seen quite a large portion of fans with huge collections that include helmets.

lol the concussion thing isnt a "storm that will blow over". Its a permanent culture change. The NFL hid the details of the health problems for years, and now they're getting exposed, and doing major damage control by changing the rules and regulations of the sport.

The NFL loves making money, and can do so in many ways. Changing helmet protocol just to add more jersey options for retail sales is a waste of time. They will always be able to sell alternates that work around the teams' current helmet styles (49ers black jerseys). Teams re-brand all the time to generate revenue. The Eagles will likely switch back to the kelly green/silver Randall Cunningham uniforms soon. Then they can change their helmets and jerseys for retail profit.

I realize this but as time passes we develop better helmets and the NFL isn't* going to stop anytime* soon*. Retire if you want but the next best* talent will get the call, take the money and fill the superstar shoes the league, money and power gave to you. They get paid extremely well for taking those hits also. Worst case scenario the NFL will just take on a new routine for their turnover rate as a business and get used to hiring players for one or two contracts before they retire, but will still be creating new gear to sell to collectors who see it on tv and just HAVE TO add it to their collection or man cave. I think you agree with me though in that the NFL isn't going to die from this and will keep producing new uni's, helmets and more to keep the shelves stocked with fresh gear for consumers to spend their money on.

Your logic makes no sense...If fans want a throwback helmet, or jersey, they can go buy them, regardless of whether the team is wearing them as alternates...

yes

of course its available but people buy what they see on tv man. just like the millions of fast food commercials that play off of getting you to see the food and want it, the nfl uses the same technique to sell merchandise. they know sales peak when players wear the gear and its fresh in stores thereafter.
I've never seen somebody advocate so hard for something so odd like the popularity of NFL helmets for display in homes or mancaves. Did I miss a link to a site that sells helmets? I'm know some fans have helmets. They are collector items, especially if autographed. But I honestly don't know a single person that owns one. I know a few people that have a mini helmet with an autograph, but nobody that has an authentic NFL helmet. Autograph or not.

Again, I fully acknowledge some people have and collect them, but this whole conversation started because Mr said the NFL will abandon their safety policy of a single helmet per season to boost the sales of helmets with different designs. As if they represent a huge untapped portion of profits that the NFL is missing out on. And that just seems preposterous in this overly safety cautious time that we're in.

I keep clicking on this thread from the home page thinking someone found a link to some new jerseys. I think it is just a subconscious click when I see the tittle.

Then I realize it is a weird debate about helmet ownership.

For what's worth, I have one. Got it for Christmas about 20 years ago. It sits collecting dust and has very little purpose.
I dont believe that leaked color chart, no way they let the us and the Cards play against each other with Gold and Yellow jerseys

When I was at the 49ers Detroit game the Harbaugh vs Schwartz hard handshake game. There was a Lions fan behind us that came back to his seat with an autographed Barry Sanders helmet. That was the only time I can remember seeing anyone buy one.

There are some doubts about how authentic a that chart is, but it also stipulates on the chart that alternate colors will be worn if there are color conflicts. There's 2 other games this season where there are similar colors matched up where alternate will be necessary.

That would definitely be worth having. I've had season tickets for the 49ers for over 20 years and I've never seen somebody buy a helmet at a game. Granted Candlestick wasn't so modern to have great retail shopping, but they sold stuff at different spots around the stadium.

Been to levis twice for games. Have seen people buy a helmet in the store both times.

Why do you keep coming back though? I was stating facts for people that care to hear it, not for people looking to start an argument only to avoid stating anything worth time or space. I'm just telling you since you cared to discuss.

You need a glass case and a spot near the tv to represent for the home team man. A Joe Montana autograph is the best football autograph you can get too. Just keep that in mind. Best player ever. Hardest position in all of sports to play and he did it the very best without cheating in a tougher era. It's not worth the most because he is alive and not one of those players that rarely autograph. He likes to give his fans autographs at a fair rate. But yes in my opinion the best autograph to get and that helmet is waiting for one and a nice glass case.

Great autograph to get.

They are not bought at game's at any noticeable rate. I told you, retail stores, home shopping network, online, catalogs, etc..

Oh wow. That's awesome! I don't have one but I would love to get the current 49ers authentic helmet and an expensive glass case for it. No autograph for me though, I prefer the clean look of our officially sized authentic team helmet above or near the tv so I see it often and during every game.
