When I first started following the Niners in 1954-55 they were wearing red helmets with a silver stripe. Then they changed back to silver. Then solid white. Then solid gold. Then back to silver with 3 stripes then 2stripes. Finally in 1964 they went to the current gold with some combo of red/white/black striping. The gold is more fitting since it plays into the 49er/gold rush theme.

I've always felt that the 49er team name was one of the most appropriate in the league given that SF grew during the gold rush.

Yeah that would look cool but ultimately gold is fairly heavy. This would put us at a serious speed disadvantage.

I'm glad they didn't go black. I'm tired of every team having a black jersey.
