Lol, ok. Joe had a couple of good years left. Seifert wanted his own guy in there, so Steve got the nod.
Steve Young was hand selected to be on the team by Bill Walsh as competition for Joe. Steve wasn't "Seifert's guy". He was the younger, better QB by the 1992 season, which was proven by winning the NFL MVP award in 1992 and 1994. Joe was not an MVP caliber player anymore. Eddie D initially let his heart decide and was going to trade Young to the Chiefs for Derrick Thomas. Obviously it didn't end up happening, and he ultimately decided to make the right call, which was to go with Steve and trade Joe.
