agree!

The NFL's "5 year rule" that prevents teams from making any minor or major uniform changes means that in 2022 the Niners can implement some updates next year (they last revised their jerseys to having just two stripes in 2017).

All they'd need to do to go full-time classic dynasty look:

• go back to the 1989-95 oval helmet logo full time (this would save the equipment managers time re-sticking decals for throwback games). This logo just seems "brighter" and pops out more to me. The increase in its use (painted on-field and endzones @ Levi's) seem to hint its imminent return. There always seems to be a confusion in using the proper shade of red for the 2009-present logo with the extra gold ring (prob confused for the darker cardinal red of the 1996-2008 logo) so just going back to the 1989-95 logo with bright scarlet red simplifies things.

• bring back the three sleeve stripes for the jerseys (and not the weird-looking 2009-2016 stripes). When they switched to just two stripes in 2017, the Niners went to great lengths explaining away the change, that it was to "simplify" the jerseys' design, sleeves were shorter, it was to match the two red stripes on the helmets, etc. (but we all suspect it was a Nike-influenced decision so that the team wouldn't have a subliminal "Adidas Tri-Stripes" on their uniforms). It was a silly change then and should be abandoned for the team's legacy look (their '94 throwbacks prove three stripes can be done, plus it would also simplify things logistically for the team's equipment managers: only having one blank jersey template to stitch on either plain or shadowed numerals for the regular/throwback jerseys, respectively).

^ These updates wouldn't bring back the full 80's look (team prob doesn't brink back the "candy-cane" striped socks and the small "TV" numbers on the jerseys used to be on the side above the sleeve stripes, not on top of the shoulder pads), but it'd be a start…

I remember when they wore the silver but one reason they switched to gold was that it fit the team name better. After all, it wasn't called the silver rush. The stadium name is perfect for the Niners since Levis were invented during the gold rush.

Not all "49ers" came to California to pan for gold…in fact the majority who actually made riches didn't even mine, but earned their riches exploiting the needs of the miners for supplies (Levi Strauss being a famous example).

Silver helmets, like it or not, are part of the team's uniform legacy and should be honored just for its pure quirkiness. Not every NFL uniform component has to make sense, especially for throwbacks (where a lot of times the whole point of wearing them is they're unique and quirky):

- real life Buccaneers in the 1600's I'm sure didn't wear bright creamsicle orange

- Boston Patriots for sure as hell didn't have RED coats

…Broncos don't have orange manes, Eagles aren't green, etc. etc.

we didn't have silver helments in 94, we won't have them in the future

without the gold it looks too simple

Next year, when alternate helmets are allowed, the throwback silver helmets will return…

Wearing the silver helmets once as a throwback would be an interesting change-up, but overall I like our current alternates as they are.

The '94s were inaccurate from the start since a true throwback to the 1955 unis which they were based on had plain red helmets (with a gray stripe), but the team just kept wearing their regular 1989-95 gold helmets. Thus it became "faux-back" that the 2018-present retro "94" alternates are based on.

the team is debating on choosing to bring the plain red 1955 helmet to compete the true "throwback" look, but to me that'd be way too plain and college-looking (think: Alabama). Since the 1994 look is a "faux-back" anyways and not 100% accurate (the '55 white jerseys also had black sleeve stripes), pairing them with the 1962-63 silver helmets isn't a big deal to me…they'd still at least be recognizably the 49ers on TV: with a metallic helmet that has an oval logo. Yes, yes, "Ohio St." blah, blah, blahhhh

yes it was inaccurate, but they did have the option to choose the correct setup

where did you hear that they are debating the red helmets?

Yes, NFL teams and Nike always contrive these weird terms and names to justify their aesthetic choices (just look at the NBA & their laughable terms for all the teams' versions of jerseys "City", "Association" etc., not to mention college football, esp Oregon)

If those helmets are marketed as "WHITE GOLD" or "PLATINUM" instead of the obvious, majority of the fans would get over it.

It was brought up in July shortly after the red '94 jerseys officially debuted, and since the NFL had finally allowed bringing back alternate-colored helmet shells in 2022:
