So, this puts Paraag at the highest rung in the Football Operations category. He is listed as Executive Vice President of Football Operations.

If Maraath reports to Guido, then they need to correct the categories and Hierarchy. The way it is listed makes it out to be that Paraag reports to nobody but Ownership.

Again, this is based on our interpretation of what we think the hierarchy might be. For example, I have a ton of SVPs and EVPs and GMs at my current employer, but depending on where they are in the company, some report directly to the CEO/President and some do not. Reporting at that level don't always follow a logical hierarchy based on title.

Oddly, when asked specifically who would be on the search committee Jed said that he'd be working with Marathe to find a GM/HC, but did not mention Al Guido. Was that a slip or does it represent the actual informal power structure on the football side?

Jed and Paraag have been the power structure atop football operations since the mid 2000s. Nobody has had more power than either of them in that time. Harbaugh was the only one that bucked against them and not surprisingly, that represented their only period of success.

Found this interesting about Nick Caserio from NE. This is from the Boston Herald article that claims he is too valuable to lose-

Caserio's value can't be undersold. Of course, he takes the lead on negotiations with contracts and trades. Last offseason when the Patriots courted restricted free agent Chris Hogan, Belichick's sit-down with the wide receiver never touched on money. When they parted, Belichick affirmed to Hogan that Caserio would ensure the deal would be executed, and they struck a creative three-year, $12 million pact.

That being said, I wonder how this affects working with Paraag since he is the lead contract negotiator for the 49ers. Would Caserio welcome a partnership with him on contracts and trades?

What if Caserio learned from Paraag?

Where and when would that have happened?

At one of the "How to build a successful NFL Football Operation" seminars that he and Jed run in the offseason.

That eliminates him because Paraag isn't going to let anyone step on his turf

Not sure. I really have no idea. You're asking me to get into Jed's brain.

LOL! Now there's a scary thought! I wouldn't wish that on you!

Don't worry, it's obviously a very empty place. Nothing to be scared of.

No, be afraid. Be very afraid. Most likely a very dark and cold place.

I visualize a dark and dank place with a guy standing in the shadows holding an ice pick...oh no! It's Marathe! Run for your life!
Paraag trying to sneak away? Wonder if he will understand all of the X's and O's the candidates throw at him? BFF's are so in over their heads here without a GM to run this search for HC.

Paraag has a PowerPoint presentation as part of his pitch to prospective GMs & Coaches. And the famous spreadsheets, of course.

Paraag must go through a lot of knee pads

I read an MMQB article months ago about the rigorous process of the head coach interview from the GM/owner side........and how coaches often have a speech prepared summarizing their goals, or have the be able to answer on a multitude of questions that you wouldn't expect....

Would be hilarious to see how different the Jed interviews will go.

Found it.....damn near a year ago, time flies!

Jed will never get s**t straight until he fires Paraag. This dude has Jed in his back pocket.

My opinion only:
I think Paraag has solidified himself to Jed as a person with a lot of football AND business knowledge. I actually think Jed leans a lot on Paraag for his football/analytic knowledge because Paraag has been learning about football the last 8 or so years from sitting in coaching meetings, being in the booth, and any/all other aspects of experiencing the "football structure". Paraag and his team have been watching and evaluating scouting film and many other things.
So, Jed sees Paraag as a "Football Resource" now and does not need a true NFL executive to help him with interviews.

The fact that Paraag hasn't advised his boss, the owner of the 49ers, who is not heavily involved in football matters, that his boss SHOULD bring in well-experienced successful NFL people to help interview is a major bad on Paraag. He should be fired for not providing Jed with the best resources.

I also think Paraag is the reason why some NFL GM's and Coaches would not want to come here.
