Dude was in the background and in the shadows all these years. Getting what I believe to be a bad rep by not allowing his personality into the media. All of a sudden, he shows up on a 43 minute podcast to let people into his world.
Good job John Lynch. Me thinks you met Paraage and encouraged him to get out there.

While on a sports writer's podcast. He talked a lot about football as well. Let's hope the 49ers new structure pushes Admin to be itself and not hide.

I'm sure he "hid" by choice... better to be in the shadows and never get any blame (or in this case for as long as possible), than people knowing you exist.
I mean he has been with us for a VERY LOOOOOOOOOOONG TIME. Since Erickson I believe. And I think he had a part in that hire over someone else. Or that might have been the Nolan hire.
either way Joe, you make it seem like Jed made him hide or something.

He started with Mariucci.
I dont think he was hiding, I think he was a business and statistics analyst. Why would he be publicly seen and heard? In the NFL, only the GM, head coach, and sometimes owner are expected to speak to media and represent the team to the public.
It doesn't matter now, since Lynch and Shanahan aren't going to listen to any non-football guy for advice about football. Lynch has a team of football people around him. Paraag is the contracts and analytics guy, and anything he used to do that was more than that is now in the past.

Agreed...the issues were his actual involvement in football related activities, overstepping his lane, true power/influence, potential money ball influence, and b/c his title is one that would warrant being ON the front line: EVP of Football Operations. In the chain of commands, that would qualify a GM reporting up to him and him conducting HC/GM interviews...which, ironically, he did. So fans are just questioning (like MM did), what made he and Jed qualified to do just that (especially after 16 years only having success for a 3-year run and with the recent debacles in HC hires/fires). Why not just hire a REAL President of Football Operations and let him conduct the GM/HC interviews and run the show? He continually wants to be involved in things that a contract-only guy wouldn't normally do, no? The irony is that we DID technically hire a President of Football Operations...his name is John Lynch...but we call him a General Manager. LOL
Despite the titles though, one certainly gets the impression roles are a little better now and all parties are working well together. And if they correct the titles someday and everyone stays in their lane, it's all good in the end...something we all deserve after the last 16 years of crap save for a brief moment of success under the Yorks/Paraag.

He was more than that. He was VP of Football Ops but was always in the shadows. Let's get stop avoiding the fact that he held more of a role than business and statistics analyst. That position doesn't interview GMs and HCs and is not called the VPFO. He is one of the larger figures in the organization who was responsible for our s**t show.

Who cares about an article. He is in the interviews when it comes to hiring coaches and general managers. His title was VPFO. That alone shows he isn't/wasn't just in analytics.

They have a guy named Brian who is in charge of contracts and analytics. Why would Marathe have the titles of EVP of Football Ops and Chief Stategy Officer if he were just the contracts and analytics guy?
