Paraag is like a good OL - when he's doing a good job we never hear his name .
Oh, and seeing that Vance McDonald number up there made me literally eat some of my own throw up.

Yeah and how can CK file a lawsuit. He's clearly still getting paid by us. LOL

That's just because his previous signing bonus was put on the books for 2017, right?

How are we owning McDonald's dead money? That was a trade. And we wouldn't get hit for Bowan's money next season either. I thought once you cut a player their total cap hit the moment you cut them.

Agreed but I thought dead money only applies to cut players not traded players - but again only if that team choose not to recognize that cap hit all in one season. Given how much cap space we have, it seems silly not have all of that cap space hit this season so we don't carry over any dead money into 2018. However, I'm not sure about NFL season rules and when cap figures are realized. The trade, however, seems wrong. When Houston traded Osweiler to Cleveland, it was expressly for getting rid of his cap number.

"For cap purposes, a trade right now operates like a post-June 1 roster cut. That means the 49ers would carry one season's worth of dead money on the 2017 salary cap, and the remaining on the 2018 salary cap. McDonald's $7 million signing bonus was paid in 2016, so the first year of proration was 2016. That means the 49ers will carry $1.55 million in dead money in 2017, and then $4.2 million in dead money in 2018. McDonald is owed a fully guaranteed $2.1 million this season, but the Steelers pick up that guarantee with the trade."

Oh dayem.
When Mooch is talking about "analytics" to out Bryant Young, was this the start of Paraag?

I think Jed will side with ShanaLynch vs Paraag if push comes to shove. First of all, I think ShanaLynch know the analytics probably almost as well as Paraag, and if not, Paraag isn't doing his job. I loved the fact that there was an out option in Kaep's contract that enabled ShanaLynch to cut Kaep if he wasn't wanted by the New Regime. I think that was installed in there by Paraag, and not Baalke or Harbaugh. I think that it's too technical for them to have done so. (just my opinion of course).
Paraag is going to be needed once we really start winning and all the players will want Franchise QB level money even though they are O Linemen. In the meantime, it doesn't hurt that Paraag is on the team making sure that Grap's contract will be as cap friendly as possible from the git go. But ultimately, I think John Lynch is going to make those contract decisions and Paraag will be just an assistant to make sure John isn't missing anything important. John Lynch is going to defer greatly to Kyle on the offensive side, and of course John's going to make the decisions on the defensive side - with input from Kyle. At least, that's how I'm reading the current relationship right now.

Yeah, love his role today. I just thought that nugget was interesting...that pounding the table for BY over analytics was one of the sources of contention with management that lead to Mooch's own dismissal.

Maybe, just maybe, Jed is finally going to let the football guys have more sway than the bean counters. But in Jed's defense (I can't believe I started a sentence like that), I would have probably taken Paraag's advice over Baalke's, he didn't get along with Harbaugh, so hard for him to trust him... I just have this gut feeling that John Lynch ends up not only being the face of the franchise, but the head of everything football as well. The alliance of Lynch and Shanahan just oozes professionalism and inspires confidence to me. Hope it does to Jed.
