Pretty sure his impact dates back to the Erickson days when the Niners were in true cap hell, ironically helping the team out of the mess created by the guy that hired him, Terry Donahue.

I think Marathe has been with the 49ers for quite a bit, he was quote on quote John York's guy, and people hated it, but the guy is smart, and deserves credit.
And man Donahue was a horrible GM. But it dates back(cap hell wise) to before Erickson's days, to Carmen Policy days, we had some bad contracts in the late 90s, early 2000s. We needed to restructure deals, which is not a good thing to do, look at the Steelers, they're hurting cap wise every year cause of this.

Yup that's all truth. The Erickson (2) years were the culmination of the cap mismanagement that dated back to the 90's. The Nolan hire coincided with when the cap situation began to improve, thanks in large part to Marathe iirc.

You have to give baalke some credit with the cap. He really didn't draft amazing players that required lots of money to resign.

Paraag is continuing his great work, the Sherman contract looks amazing, even the Jimmy G one is structured to protect us in the future.
I know he's had his critics with his analytics, but as a cap guy he must be the best in the business.

Just don't let him decide when to challenge plays.

He may be a weasel, but he is OUR weasel! None better at contracts. As long as he stays in his office, out of sight and off the field, no where near the players or the play calling, I am good.
Analytics are good, but you feed them to the GM and Head Coach and let them decide what to to do with them. Maybe Paraag had more visibility before because Baalke was so clueless and desperation was setting in all around the FO.

Ever since Baalke left, Marathe has been killing it in the Executive Vice President of Football Operations and Chief Strategy Officer roles.

If as i saw posted, that is one helluva contract paraag. The fact the first yr is lowball depending on how he plays, plus the fact SEA dinged his health, makes me wonder if the Achilles is a problem. I would worry anyway but those two things make me a bit more suspicious about that Achilles than i would normally.

Again makes you consider who the real problem had been.
Yes...it does. But I think we knew already, GM. And it wasn't paraag.
