Played a role in driving out Bill Walsh and McVay. He's a Snake.

"Marathe's ascension coincided with the departure of Walsh and director of football operations John McVay, which could have been more than a coincidence. "

Hardly proof or even evidence.

He was super young back then. No amateur numbers savant was going to force out Walsh. He was an asset, and represented the future of the game. Walsh and McVay were old school.

TBH, im glad they chose him over Walsh and McVay. They weren't around the game much longer after that, and Paraag dug us out of Cap Hell, and is still swinging genius deals today.

He's really good at negotiating contracts. That's it. Guy is still a snake.

I think next season will be the year other teams in the NFL will try to acquire Marathe.

To do what? He is already the top person in Football operations and he has already been Team President.

But isn't he firmly entrenched with the Yorks, their franchises, and other business assets? He's pretty much apart of their close inner circle from what I read.

I thinkl John York respected Marathe more than Walsh and McVay.

Marathe and his computer shot down Walsh and McVay's trade proposals during the 2003 draft. This didn't sit well with either man, who had built the 49ers' success partly on their impulses.

Contacted recently, Walsh didn't want to comment on the team's direction.

"Can a computer help determine who you pick on draft day?" Walsh asked. "I don't know, maybe it can."

One has to remember that even if Marathe's analysis suggested to not make those specific trades, it was still the GM/HC regime of Donahue/Erickson that had to choose between Marathe's analysis and Walsh/McVay's gut. Marathe provides similar analysis to Lynch/Shanahan, and they are simply better so far at using that information to inform - not make - their decisions.

Looking back its obvious the answer is a resounding yes.

Ha! Love it!
One small tidbit that Lynch mentioned in his ESPN interview today that is being overlooked IMO is that the last regime (re: Baalke) didn't use Marathe's analysis to their advantage, or at the very least in the manner Shanalynch are using it.
