Happy with that. Paraag has done as much as anyone to build the 49ers.
Check him for witchcraft. Dude seems to brainwash players.

Lol! Look into my eyes Mr Armstead. You are feeling sleepy. Just sign here, don't worry about reading it.
The Magician
I can remember when Paraag used to get ripped on this forum, mostly for not being a football guy. How things have changed.

yes thats the only silver lining after what happend a couple weeks ago. that if theres anyone in the NFL able to equip our team to get back to that spot an finish the job, its paraag. wouldnt surprised if we try to make a big pickup for a big FA WR or CB to help get us over the top. CB would be more needed.

I remember that but he doesn't have to be a football guy. He's a finance guy who truly understands how the salary cap works and when it comes to that, he is the best in the NFL!

The problem was when he was in the coaches booth. He's an excellent cap guy though.

Yeah, salary cap was never the issue. His analytics team, driving moneyball approaches and actual involvement in football operations and meddling was the real question.

Hopefully that was beneficial in that he gets absorbed in the coach and player side of the business which allows him to create contracts that are fair to the team and the player.
If this man can find a way to extend Buckner and Kittle, resign Armstead, Sanders, and Blair, and still be poised to re-up our FAs next year (I think Juice is the biggest one), he is truly a salary cap god.

Waking an old thread, but this guy will have his work cut out for him the next few years. Will need some CAP magic to keep this train rolling. That and smart personnel decisions.

It will help Praag out if ShanaLynch drafts well and acquires good players via undrafted or via trades and free agency. I think front loaded contracts have to continue to be used, and avoid like hell any backloaded contracts.

It's not front loaded vs backloaded contracts - are bad, but rather the guaranteed money that's involved in both kinds.

Back loaded contracts really - over time- really become divorced with a players market value. Look at McKinnon- market value-wise his value is pretty near zero because of injuries, imagine if Praag wrote a back loaded contract for McKinnon? It would have been a disaster.

In a sense the average NFL players value declines over time vs what back loaded contracts do over time -- which is to go the opposite. Of course it depends on age, but 2nd contracts are given when a typical player 28-ish, and they do physically significantly decline after age 30. Pierre Garcon was (in a sense) a great example of that.
This will be the main key. As long as They can continue to draft 3-4 good players (starter worthy) a year, Paraag can work his magic. When the talent stop flowing, we will be in trouble. Look at Dre Greenlaw or Raheem Mostert for example (though he wasn't drafted by us). But both guys represent players who's contributions to the team far exceed their value. George Kittle, Arik Armstead, and DeForest Buckner are soon to enter the territory of having contracts that match their value. But if we want to win for awhile, we will need guys on rookie deals that are balling out or guys like Mostert on contracts that they far outperform. We also will need some guys taking discounts. I always knew Brady took some for the team, but when I heard he was making 16 million last season (in 2018 I believe), wow. The cuts Brady has taken over the years amounts to 3 solid starters easily or 1-2 great ones.

Yeah, I just looked at it all this morning in the Team Information thread...I just don't see how it's even possible even with some massive restructures in bigger contracts like JG. We need to clear $62M to keep our guys and that's without signing Ward and Sanders.

Yeah if we re-sign Armstead one or both (Sanders/Ward) are probably not returning. I'd still take that trade off though.
