Hope not....$65 million in dead cap space for players no longer here this season.

Thats why he may be running things now.

He's the one making these deals that now are eating at the cap.

I mean Picking the players to re-sign
This MF hasn't been catching anywhere enough blame and heat. Just saw that McBride got the bag which likely means Kittle is going to cost even more. Whoever insists on waiting on getting these deals done early is the biggest loser in our franchise

yup I agree 100%

just saw the McBride deal and was thinking the same...

PM is the one doing the negotiating. I don't know why Jed, or Lynch won't tell him to hurry things up, the earlier you get the big deals done, the more team friendly they are, so screw negotiating and just get them done in Feb

We will offer what we can afford right now. Its not going to matter what McBride got. Kittle will either accept it or he won't.

Turns out, we can still afford a lot after eating a bunch of dead money this year. Eating all the dead money this year cleared cap on future years.

McBride's contract is absolutely going to impact Kittle's negotiation...

you do realize that just because some fans think something, doesn't mean all fans think that right?

you asking an entire fanbase to make up their minds and all think the same, is actually insane

This dumbass was late of purdy, late on kittle, now that's more negotiating points for their agents

I agree this dude has a hilariously bad history of being late, but you should really point to the last 4 offseasons, not this one when it's still only early April.

If Purdy/Kittle don't get done before our first preseason game, I am done with Paraag. I don't care how many almost Super Bowls we've won with him. This BS is stupid and despite all the "ohh you need TWO sides to negotiate!" and "ohh it's just how the 49ers do things!" excuses, there's a reason we're literally the only team who does this every single year. People thought I was overdramatic with Nick Bosa's deal taking forever and it turns out it's a horrific trend. It very likely cost us at least one ring at this point. For all we know the extra cap space or extra conditioning from our stars would've made the difference.

At some point, getting the deal done in May or June instead of late-August matters. You can't just be like "oh it's okay he got signed before the regular season! All is good!!" when our star proceeds to not be up to speed at all and then injured. And costed at least $2-3M /yr more than they should've.

I agree with not blaming Paraag for not extending Purdy at this point. Paraag and Purdy's agent have only been able to talk actual numbers since January 5th, following the Cardinals game. That's when Purdy became extension eligible. Sucks that Allen was able to reset the QB market before they got Purdy done, but hopefully they get it done before Lamar is extended by the Ravens. Both the team and Purdy have set a self-imposed deadline of mid-May (OTAs) to get this done. They know the cap situation. The draft isn't going to change the QB position. Everyone on the team is committed to Purdy getting paid, we're just waiting on Paraag.

Paraag dropped the ball on the Greenlaw negotiation. He lowballed Greenlaw hard when Greenlaw was open to extending. Lynch and Shanahan flew to Texas and couldn't convince Greenlaw to decommit from the Broncos so they could convince Paraag to pay Greenlaw slightly over his market value.

Speaking of Bosa, it's hilarious that the sentiment about getting the Purdy deal done by some has been like "the 49ers are pissed about having to pay Aiyuk in 2024 so they aren't going to let Purdy take advantage." The leaks last summer were like "the 49ers are pissed about having to pay Bosa in 2023 so they aren't going to let Aiyuk take advantage."

Good points. And even when they have waited and do pay top dollar, you can tell the players are happy, but they hated the process etc. I think they like to wait until after the draft just incase it affects that position etc.

I don't think anyone enjoys salary negotiations. The players have agents that get paid to do the worrying and negotiating for them so they can concetrate on the game. They're going to be wealthy no matter what the final number is. They aren't going to play better or worse depending on whether they're the highest paid, 3rd highest or whatever.
