Could you elaborate on this? I've never heard this story before! (Or I at least don't remember it.) Do we know what players/picks were involved, or was this just a vague report/rumor? Not saying I don't you, just interested in hearing more about it.

I have been talking about this guy's influence for 10 years, here is an article from 2005:

The industrious Marathe won the admiration of York, a licensed pathologist who admittedly relied heavily on his business background (running laboratories and race tracks) to steer his ownership of the 49ers.
"John is a scientist," a source close to York said on the condition of anonymity. "He loves proofs and statistical models."
In his projects, Marathe created graphs and charts that impressed York. After working with the 49ers for 18 months, Marathe befriended Jed York, John's eldest son. Seemingly, as the 23-year-old Jed became more visible at the 49ers' headquarters, eventually joining high-level meetings, so did Marathe.
Marathe's ascension coincided with the departure of Walsh and director of football operations John McVay, which could have been more than a coincidence. Privately, neither liked the statistical approach Donahue espoused. Marathe and his computer shot down Walsh and McVay's trade proposals during the 2003 draft. This didn't sit well with either man, who had built the 49ers' success partly on their impulses.
Contacted recently, Walsh didn't want to comment on the team's direction.
"Can a computer help determine who you pick on draft day?" Walsh asked. "I don't know, maybe it can."

Donahue also declined to comment.
As Walsh's influence faded, Donahue's system, which he kept secret for the most part, took root. Donahue and York allowed Marathe to hire interns to watch film and provide the scouting department with new statistics on players.
But Dennis Erickson's old-school coaches weren't informed of these hires. So they walked past Marathe's interns "breaking down" film and wondered what was going on

I recall hearing Walsh on KNBR about this time talk about how the Yorks had been paying him to count paperclips and that nobody in the FO was interested in his input at all.

Paraage really strategized his way up through networking and visual appeal with charts and graphs. Total silicon valley style!

Lets face the facts, Jed isn't going to fire himself, maybe mommy does but I don't think so. I think most agree that serious change needs to happen to UPPER management. So Pragaag and Trent at a minimum need to be removed ASAP it's unfortunate but it seems to be true. Who they replace them with is the million dollar question, it should go without saying the incompetence of the current cast of coaching stiffs will be long gone.
The next management structure is way above my pay grade but as a starter I would suggest Geep gone today and Wiesenhunt hired this afternoon.

Only way they fire Paraage is if other coaching candidates or GM candidates refuse to come here unless Paraage is out.

They hired Walsh to count paperclips and didn't want any of his input???

I hate this fact - but these clowns tend to side with their group of inbred clowns. See Tomsula over Gase, Baalke replacing McCloughan, Baalke/Marathe/FO/CEO over Harbaugh. The fact that we're still carrying someone involved with football decisions from the Erickson era despite all the pre-Harbaugh years of ineptitude speaks volumes.
paarage aint never leaving in fact he gonna be promoted to "Head of Football Operations"
I knew this clown was always the "leaker".

And if Baalke is fired, how much you want to bet that Gamble is the next GM.

I don't think they have anyone that they trust in-house to replace Tomsula so as a necessity they'll have to go for an outside coach this time but its all about keeping everything as insulated as possible and keeping outsiders away.

Uhm, he's a step above that right now. He WAS head of football operations, now he's team president, the only position left for him to ascend to is CEO but its rather hard to stab the owner's kid in the back to move up further.

He's probably working those figures up to see when possible.

I wouldn't bet you on that - it's more or less a done deal!

It wouldn't surprise me that Tomsula is out before the end of the year and we promote Mangini to head coach ala Nolan to Singletary. Somehow, they win 2 games at the end of the year and Mangini sticks around for another year retaining most of the coaching staff.
If you're a season ticket holder you should hate Paraag more than any of us. He and his "thought leaders" decided it would be a great idea to implement electronic mobile ticketing, which as it turns out makes it incredibly difficult to dump season tickets.

What are some of the challenges or opportunities of leading a team in the Silicon Valley?
There's an expectation that we are always being on the cusp of innovation. We had a great opportunity with Levi's Stadium [the 49ers' new $1.3 billion stadium]. It was like a petri dish of all the latest and greatest technology. But we didn't want to do technology for technology's sake. We took all the ideas in, we had our own, and we brainstormed with a lot of the thought leaders here. We came up with around 200 ideas, and stuck with five core ones that we thought had the biggest impact.

What were those five?
Mobile ticketing; replays on demand within a few seconds after any play; in-seat delivery of food, beverage, and merchandise in under 10 minutes; a big loyalty program where you earned 49er Yards [prize points] wherever you transacted in the building; and wayfinding with the fastest way to your seat or bathroom wait times. Should you go to the bathroom now and miss two series? Or should you go when it's a green light and just miss first down?

next year, now that the 49er Faithful/Furious know exactly the kind of scumbag owner they're dealing with, no one will renew their season ticket licenses. This year though, you are left holding a s**t sandwich...
