Any hope for A. Boone?

Does anybody think that there is any hope for Alex Boone ever being a starter? I keep hoping this kid slimmed and has been doing wind sprints/speed drills for the last 11 months. I would love it if he could step up and take the starting right tackle spot and we could focus on just drafting BPA. You thoughts?

Yes, there is hope for him...but not on the time table you are hoping for. If he has a good off-season and TC, he can compete for a spot on the active roster, as opposed to the practice squad. Regardless of whether he ran a million windsprints or not over the last 9 months, he is not someone the 49ers are going to count on considering he was undrafted, has not plated in a NFL game, never made it off the practice squad, etc.

Would be nice if he could, but I don't see that stopping the 49ers from drafting a RT in the draft.

Hope? Yes. Expectations? No.

It seemed like many were high on this kid last year. Some even thought he would be drafted but i don't know much about him. Don't know if he was rated high or low or anything. He must be decent to have been kept but not good enough or somebody would have signed him to the active roster on some team. Any details on this kid?

no. he's a bust.
if he has become a starter by now he'll never amount to anything...
sorry, i guess that's not directed at this thread specifically.
it's a legit question. there is ALWAYS hope, and many guys who
get off to slow starts do end up with productive careers...
but if you look at the numbers, guys who go undrafted and spend their
1st year on the PS have a very slim chance of ever become fixtures
in starting lineups. IT DOES HAPPEN, but the percentages are very small.

If you go undrafted, then you cannot be a bust can you?

You can't be bust if you go undrafted because there were little to no expectations to begin with. Furthermore you cant truly deem a player a bust after only one season in the league. I don't care if you were the number one pick or mr irrelevant it's just way too soon.

There's hope because if there wasn't he wouldn't be on our practice squad. Will he amount to anything? I doubt it.

Lets see he is huge and fast and played at Ohio..... yea there is a chance.... remember he was considered late first day or early second day talent, until he got drunk and got tasred. He is a monster in the run game if his pass protection can be coached up and he works on footwork, yea he has potential!

There is always hope but I would try and move him inside to Guard and let him keep his weight up. But even if they keep him a Tackle and he improves this off-season they still have to draft a RT.
