playing Carr right now would mean throwing the towel in on this season. we're still alive, goddammit.
Get this b***h started.

If Smith f**ks up in the 1st half vs the Eagles, even his bff Singletary will be forced to pull him.

David Carr...really? Is this what this franchise has been reduced to...hoping our starter gets hurt or benched so we can put in DAVID CARR? Man, the Texans must be laughing at us right now. Smith is a joke, but he's light years better than Carr. Let's be realistic. I'd freakin' rather play Troy Smith or Nate Davis.

I don't understand why you think Smith is better than Carr, they both suck ass... But I would love to hear why you think Smith is better?

This offensive line isn't playing that well right now...if you think Alex looks bad, Carr is going to look 10x worse. I won't go into all the reasons because it's a waste of time to make this comparison when both of these QBs are horrible, but to summarize, Alex has a stronger arm, more mobility, and doesn't get sacked as much. Carr holds on to the ball way too long. I just don't see a point in starting him. He's a stopgap...a bad stopgap at that. He's like Tim Rattay...only older. IF Carr is better than Smith, which is a big IF, it's by a very small margin, and given Carr's age (31), it's really pointless to make this switch and waste even more time. You might as well see what you have in Troy Smith and Nate Davis.

There stats show you're wrong here; just take a look below...

Alex career completions = 57%
Carr career completions = 60%

Alex career attempts per INT = 26.5
Carr career attempts per INT = 32.1

Attempts per fumble lost:
Alex = 94.5
Carr = 102.3

Attempts per TD
Alex = 31.5
Carr = 30.4

Alex is less accurate, turns the ball over more frequently, Loses more fumbles, and scores less often. So, I ask you, how is Smith "light years better than Carr"?

YOU!

Another worthless bandwagon...no matter what any Zoners think, as long as Singletary's running the show, you won't see Carr on the field unless Alex gets hurt.

This is precisely why we should bench Alex, it's obvious that he doesn't have the natural instincts to play the game. We all know what Alex can do and more importantly can't do. He has a ton of football smarts with zero heart to play the game. I saw an episode of The Big Bang Theory, where one of the characters learns all the rules of football, it totally remind me of Alex Smith, and how he probably runs the huddle.

At this point putting in Carr, Davis, or Troy, might not salvage the season, but we should at least see what we have in the bullpen. You never know, one of those guys might actually give us the spark we so desperately need.

Any team at this point trys a different QB. Diffinetly a team with a 0-4 start. They make changes at the QB first then they try that for a game or maybe two. If it doesn't work out then go back to number #1 or evaluate your #3 during the fail game two.

BUT we wont change QBs. At least not now. If...and I mean IF...we 49ers dont win and there is no change. Lets get some LUCK...lol
I think it's worth remembering that our backups are who they are for one reason - THEY POSE ABSOLUTLEY NO THREAT OR NO UPGRADE OVER ALEX SMITH. Singletary has pretty much painted that on the walls over the last week. He and the organization have 100% put this season on Alex Smith. They want to take away ANY possible excuses for failure. Competition at the QB position is one of those potential excuses.

Nate Davis was a wrench in the plan - he actually had enough talent to warrant doubt in making Smith the starter. Seriously, do ANY of your believe any of that bull#### about Davis not looking like he was prepared? I believe that about as much as I believe in the Easter Bunny. Nate Davis looked decent in the preseason which was slightly better than Smith looked. This meant potential competition at the QB position. Remember the thing about them trying to avoid any possibility of that? So what's the solution? Pretend you're totally disgusted with Davis's play and appearent lack of preperation and move him to the practice squad. Get him off the active roster so he has even less of a shot a looking better than the starter in practice.

Face it. This season's journey is being ridden out on the Alex Smith ship. Where it goes, the season goes.

All that said, you have to realize that to abandon that ship RIGHT NOW - read: benching Smith - is equivalent to saying to the other 52 players, "Hey guys, I know you still have fight left in you and I KNOW you guys haven't given up on our season but I'm taking it out of your hands and giving up for you". You have to understand the long term psychological effect this would have on the REST of the team. Those guys haven't quit on you so you can't quit on them....at least not in the 4th week!! Once we're mathmatically eliminated from contention, yes...but NOW? You just can't do it.

This would be different if we hadn't said to the whole world "Hey...the ONLY way we can possibly succeed is on the arm of Alex Smith...his failure is OUR failure". But guess what...we did (and by "we" i mean York) The whole year is invested in the guy. Pulling the plug could cost the entire organization in the long run. The players would no longer believe in their employers/coaching staff and would be lost. Keep the Carr/Smith/Davis bandwaggon in the garage until we're elminated from contention. You don't have any other choice...

i saw plenty of heart from Alex in the NO game, alone. if you didn't, you were too busy watching sitcoms.

oh and we're still alive for the division so there is no "might not salvage the season"
