Make no mistake about it, David Carr was not signed to compete with Alex Smith to become the starting QB. Carr was brought in to compete to be the #2 QB, the backup. He was brought in to bring some stability to this offense.
As it stands right now, we have three QB's (Alex Smith, David Carr, and Nate Davis) who each have some mobility and can be a threat in the passing game. They each have similar styles that will help the 49ers develop an offensive identity. I like Shaun Hill, but if Alex were to not play (for whatever reason) we would have to take the offensive scheme back to square one. It would be a HUGE setback for this team!
I think this signals the beginning of the end for Shaun Hill as a member of the San Francisco 49ers.
Carr has no mobility at all my 49er friend. Its one of the reasons he gets sacked so much. All he has is a cannon arm which would be great if he made good choices throwing or if he didnt hold on to teh ball to long. Theres a reason a huge reason why this guy gets sacked so much. If this guy comes in is our automatic #2 then Davis aint worth a s**t. Trust me when I say this that Carr will be as effective behind our OL in Rayes offense as he was during his years in Houstan and Carolina. For teh NYGs who have 1 of the best pass protecting OLs in the league he looked at best decent. He wont be behind anything close to resembling that here in SF.
