I don't see how anyone could say Sing is better than Nolan at this point. In '07, Nolan had much less talent with a much worse Alex at QB, and he started off 2-1. Sing has a much better QB, and wayyy more talent, and we are starting off 0-5.

I honestly think Sing is the dumbest coach in NFL history, and I'm not exaggerating. I'm pretty sure that no other team has hired such an unintelligent man as HC.

Do you even watch the games? Do you even understand how the game is played? What does the coach have to do with not holding on to the football? What do you want them to run the run and shoot super spread offense well that would take a good offensive line that can pass block. Would you still be this upset if they had less turnovers and were 3-2 but still ran the ball on 1st down lol.

There are drills that are run to teach ball security, obviously Singletary doesn't run any in practice. In High School we had a back who was a fumbler, coach gave him a football to carry around school for a week, he was too never take his hand off the ball while at school. If he was caught without touching it at anytime he got laps.
Believe it or not that taught him to be aware of the ball first and foremost and it cut down on his fumbling. Maybe I should see if Coach Clark is still around, he can teach Gore ball security.

Singletary should use this drill and tell Gore to walk around with a football everywhere he goes...

Gore's reply:

It's not just one guy who is repeatedly fumbling every game. It's a different one each game. Sometimes it's just bad luck or trying to hard.

BTW, what drill did you guys do to keep your QB from throwing INTs?

Like I said before, Crabtree, Davis drops a pass and they're all of a sudden a big problem with the team, same goes for Gore fumbles. EVERYONE fumbles, drops passes but not on a CONSISTENT basis!

Fans have SHORT term memories. It seems to be "what have you done for me TODAY"?

Unfortunately the QB IS CONSISTENT but for all the wrong reasons. Not to worry because unless HE improves dramatically, HE and most of his supporters will be gone by the end of the season.

We went through this with Tim Rattay!
I think a lot of writers have called Sing's philosophy crappy.
This artical was spot on, i hope it finds it's way to SING'S mailbox at team headquarters as well as placed under his windshield wipers in the parking lot.
Sing needs to call Mike Johnson, and say...
"I want you to do do whatever you need to do, with whoever you need, to win the game. If you want to pass 80 times and run 0 times, that is fine. Show me something good and use our playmakers to the best of their abilities."

He then removes his headset while the Niners are on offense....
At the top of the post 9erfanforlife basically shut up all of you Singletary bashing spitback knowledge, no critical thinking teenage fans up.
When did the Zone lose its class...I have been a fan of the niners since just before the John Brodie days. Even in some of the darkest days, I dont remember the niner fans being ugly. These are truly dark days for the niners, but do we have to lose our history of being a proud franchise in the process? We may be the joke of the NFL, but even in this dark period, I am hopeful that this group of Niners will succeed, yes, even our current ownership and coach. GO NINERS!
ALL I KNOW IS IF SOMEONE DOESNT STEP THE f**k UP AND DO SOMETHING, WE'RE GOING 0-16 WITH THIS STUPID ASS PHILOSOPHY!!!!!!

Tired of this s**t!!!! WHY CANT SINGLETARY EVER LEARN!!!!!!!!!! f**k your philosophy, f**k WHAT you wanted to accomplish going into this season!! NONE of that s**t matters now!! your team is 0-5!!!!!!!!!!! 0 and freaking 5!!!!! for a team that had such HIGH FREAKING expectations, you and your team SURE found ways to f**k those predictions up!

COME ON Singletary.... get your FYSICAL out of your ass and lets just do whatever the f**k it takes to win!!! OBVIOUSLY our, "philosophy" hasn't been working. Let's try something different?
Well if nothing else this thread is good for getting Zoners emotionally invested again.

For me, I want to see Smith running the Offense more. I want to see him Under Center and in the Gun. And I want to see this Offense come out swinging with Gore next to his QB(setting up Running attacks) blocking for Smith. Mix up the personnel packages with Westbrook off the Line (replacing Ginn) to spread the Defense out. I want to see Dixon involved at the LoS too. He may not get thrown to but he can be used in downfield blocking situations for Vernon.

Just anything to make the Defenses have to and get them on their heels.

It pisses me off that we have all this talent on the Offense and not use it.

The only reason I want Ginn on that field is to take up a Defender. But that's only if we're going to keep him in the Offense. Alex may have to throw one away to keep the Defense second guessing but it's better than putting it up to a guy that doesn't know when to turn around and look for the ball. Nothing screws timing up than that.

And please people don't bring up "underthrown" as an excuse. If Ginn looks back on that play and adjusts to the ball, it's at least not an Interception. The average Receiver knows when to look back. Ginn doesn't.

I have been a fan for over 35 years. This is the first time I feel we have owners that aren't making winning the #1 priority. All owners of the 49ers have made blunders during my time as a fan. Anyone remember Joe Thomas? He was the fool that traded for a washed up O.J. Simpson, but at least Eddie D fired him pretty quickly. Before the Yorks I always had hope things would be better during the down years. That hope came from the fact ownership was trying it's best to win. The Yorks aren't doing that. If you want a winning NFL team you don't staff your front office with nobodies and hire 3 straight head coaches that did not have previous NFL success. Singletary was a good hire based on him getting a 5-4 finish out of an 2-5 team, but when he followed it up with 8-8, he should have been gone. The problem is the Yorks don't try to fix their mistakes fast enough. By the time they finally wise up and get a good GM and HC the core players will be on the down slide and it will be time to start all over again.

Here’s a philosophy hold on to the damn football

Exactly. I don't know any philosophy, strategy, or tactics that could work if our turnovers remain high.

The turnovers have occurred mostly on short passes and on runs.

When Smith passes the ball on every play on the drive it seems like at least 50% of the time we score a TD.

Two TDs from the Eagles game came on all passing drives. The other TD came because Smith converted some very tough passes on 3rd and long.

Last year, Smith threw 4 TD and 0 Int while throwing from the shotgun spread offense exclusively.
And if you include the "half-games" where we went with the shotgun spread, it looks more like 9 TD and 1 or 2 interceptions.

EXACTLY. Its about doing what WORKS. I mean for crying out loud, why would you not do what works?

If we need to run 100 times with 0 passes and it works, then do it. If we need to pass 100 times with 0 runs, then do it.
When we throw the ball all day, it works, period. So why not simply go with what WORKS?!

I almost think Barrows and MM are scared to piss off Singletary.

Really, it takes distant, often national writers to really report the sometimes ugly truth of local teams.

If you were a young writer with a family and no place to go, would you risk being exiled by the local team, not allowed at practices or in the locker room? Maybe losing your job? How about having tens of thousands of people seriously mad at you for upsetting their view of the world? Even so far as threats against you?

Most reporters in any field learn to hunker down and stay employed, try to sneak in a message that at least a few people will pick up on.

Barrows and MM are the leaks. They tell national writers things they wouldn't write themselves because they would not be getting inside info anymore.

You know, that makes sense. Didn't think of that!

Why not add some intelligent analysis to the boxscore summary (which proves crap since it tells nothing about the order of plays as they were called)?

Could the higher number of pass plays be related to the 49ers scrambling into hurry/spread/pass only mode when the run-run-pass method used for most of the game took them nowhere but into a late deficit to climb out of?

.

This goes without saying, some people just don't get it. When you built your Offense around short passes and long drives, it makes it a lot easier for defenders to cheat and clog passing lanes, and also to tip balls. Also, the amount of third and longs we put our QBs in is startling, it's an obvious passing down where very few QB perform well. We led the league in third and long situations last year. It all goes back to playcalling and strategy.
