I know people are rolling their eyes, but I came across this old photo of the 49er mascot from the 80's. i do not think he was called Sourdough Sam then. I have a photo with this one somewhere, I took one with him when i was a kid. Interesting look this dude had.

Since it's been brought up I know a lot of us wish they would go back to the old Sourdough Sam. This new one looks like a "alternate live style" version and a mix of Brian Jennings and Derek Smith. People where calling him Brokeback Sammy.

Totally agree. Seems like quite a few of the current owner's decisions (from the mascot to the hiring of the Cowboys stadium PR firm) are made with the conscious intent of transforming our beloved niners into the poor man's Cowboys of the west.
I prefer the bearded mascot from a few years ago.
