how is he not?

Nobody moves him on the line......he does all the dirty work...... like occupie space..... takes him self along with two OL out of the play.....stats and camera angles following the ball doesnt really show what he does for our D-Line. The man may not be All Pro materiel but hes not garbage, I bet if he leaves and we go as is our D-line gets really crappy.

i doubt it hes not football smart. yeah hes strong but hes never around the ball making plays

He's not supposed to be.....his job on the line is to have 2 or more defenders block him out of the play so others can make the play around the ball, anybody who knows how our defensive scheme works will tell you, he does his job to perfection.

Sopoaga may not be great, but he is not garbage! I'll be interested to see what Vic Fangio can do with him.
We already tried him at NT, and it didn't work out. He's a DE in a 3-4, keep him there.

I remember him stating a few years back, that he doesn't like the NT position. Nolan was still the coach.

.. Sopoaga is not asked to be a play-making DE. Wow. Come on now. He has a specific purpose and that is space-eating and containment and he does an excellent job of both. From time to time, you will see him put in a situation where he can make a play, and he has made some, but that's not his primary responsibility.

Guys like Brett Keisel (PIT), Kedrick Golston (WASH), Luis Castillo (SD), Sione Pouha (NYJ), and Marcus Spears (DAL) all play virtually the same role with their teams. Some of these guys aren't more well-known because of it, but make no mistake, they're highly valued by their teams.

Sopoaga has been doing a fine job for a long time and people need to understand that just because he's not in there racking up enormous sack numbers, that doesn't mean he's a terrible player all of a sudden. Our line would be MUCH worse without him.
I think he does a good job at DE. Just don't play him at NT.
He's a good run stuffer.
Sucks at QB hurring and edging.

In today's NFL you can't have superstars at every position. Soap is a very solid role player, we need guys like that. I dont understand fans that expect a Patrick Willis at every position...lol.

It is very unlikely that Soap is "garbage", because we have such a studdly run D. Furthermore, stats will show ( I believe) that opponents have a very difficult running to his side, which also includes Manny Lawson. Oh wait, dont they both suck....?

great... now you said his name and that is where this thread will go, even though it has to do with a defensive player...

dick

Sopoaga's development at the nose was stunted over the past six years. Smith clearly held this guy back from his full potential.

You mean like this guy? 360 Lbs.

I guess you're right... at 330 lbs, Sopoaga isn't fat. He's muscle.
