Cool nickname. I was impressed that our own defense thinks so highly of him. Considering how many QBs our D fooled last year, it is crazy that Whitner said they can never fool Tolzien.

As far as the backup position, I think Kap will be active on game days, because he offers something different than Alex, but I think the offense would require fewer adjustments if Tolzien had to step in for Alex (knocking on the wood).

Not surprised, he seems like the sort of guy that has a lot of respect from fellow teammates, from all I've heard about him being 'that' guy who goes in at 4am, and leaves at 10-11pm at night, also caught sleeping on a couch in the lobby the following mornings during OTAs this year, and last.

No joke, he's going to conquer that #2 spot, and if he does... interesting s**t will start unfolding upon us.

dude, u just dont like anybody but AS, I mean, nate davis, carr, Kap, troy smith. u always find something negative about other qb's. Tolzien looked good in SD, and now with us, no matter the OL, OC, wr's, multiple playbooks, etc, etc....

lets wait for Harbaugh to decide, he's the qb guru

holy crap this must be your longest post and no emoticons too

All of the QBs listed suck (except for Kap, jury is still out obviously). It's easy to find negatives when the player isn't good. Funny how all of Smith's prospective replacements suck a lot more than him. People get excited with those guys after one good pass and they end up being s*itty.
Oh Swami Sacniner who knows all,can you please tell the correct number for the lotto? LMFAO.....(!)

Lol, nice counter. If you think those guys are good, please let me know why so I can correct you. I promise to be nice, because you seem a wee bit sensitive.

I finally got around to watching Friday's game. I was most interested in seeing how Kaepernick and Tolzien looked, and suffice it to say that I am thrilled with Kap's progress but blown away by Tolzien (the only other time I had watched him was when the Niners played at SD in the pre-season last year). He gets out of center quickly; he is extremely decisive; his accuracy is fantastic. He also has a confidence in the way he directs the offense that I don't think is taught. I would love to see what he can do with the first-string offense. Perhaps we will get a chance in the third or fourth pre-season.

I don't see how Tolzien doesn't get picked up by any other team looking for a back-up and potential future starter. I believe Josh Johnson will not make the roster. Short of winning a Super Bowl, Alex Smith is going to have his hands full retaining his starting job next year, as both Tolzien and Kaepernick are charging hard. It is going to be interesting for sure.
Great post, I especially agree with the bolded.

How dare you bow down to anybody but the TOLZIEN! -You're fit for the severe punishment of 4 lashings, and a peanut buster parfait.

...but I say trade Kaepernick to a QB-needy team if you can get a #1 or two #2's and just roll with Smitty & Tolzien.

With all the picks we already have for next year, not sure I would be pleased with this. But I seriously can't see anyone giving us a 1st or two 2nds for CK right now. A 3rd, maybe.

I agree. No one out there is going to give us more than we spent on him, especially since he hasn't learned to play qb at the pro level yet. I am beginning to think that Tolzien should be the #2 qb over CK. Love the guys athletic ability, but it is really painful to watch him throw the ball.

Seriously though, you dudes are all gaga over this guy after a preseason half. Dude has proved nothing substantial and I would not be shocked if he gets cut. If he makes the team, good for him and I hope he is the ginger god life you all think. But wow, this train came from nowhere.

REMEMBER HE'S FROM OAKLAND
wow Tolzien is a popular guy on NT all a sudden
Lol this thread is 11 months old. People have been high on this kid since he torched us last preseason. It hasnt been all of a sudden
Tolzien is working himself into what you would need out of your #2 qb. Someone who is well versed in the playbook. It's the most important aspect out of a #2 backup. He has more time for that than most other guys on the team. He may be limited in the athletic area but knowing the playbook provide the team with stability and continuity if the starter qb gets injured. He can come off the bench with no drop off. He has shown that he can be functional in the drop back pocket and able to find targets down field within it. That's very good from a guy who had about 1 1/2 years with us. All the good #2's will give you this. What I really want to guard against is thinking he can provide more than this in extend period as a starter.

Not as flashy as Kaep, but seems very functional.
