I'm predicting no better than 8-8 in Kelly's first year. Rebuilding takes several years for a number of reasons 1) Coaching/scheme stability 2) Development of young players over time and 3) Finding key cornerstone (impact) players via the draft and FA. Remember, it took 9 years to build up our last 3-year run and 3 GM's. This is Baalke's team now and he only has 2 holdover players as opposed to 9 last time. Essentially, he's John Schneider in 2010...getting to start from scratch.
Therefore, I've maintained all along that we're "starting" year 2 of the rebuild right now. Kelly has a nice foundation to build off of already from year 1 and Baalke needs to continue to add talent and upgrades in the draft and FA.
It's possible we can be competitive this year but it's unlikely until year 3 or 4. By then, the youngest team in the NFL will have or should have developed nicely together under the same offensive and defensive systems and had proper development and time on the NFL field growing. Unity should be better. Role-players will have been ID by then, cornerstones, QB, etc.
Very few teams in history have ever built up enough talent to reach a Superbowl, let alone had enough talent to reach 3 straight NFCCG's. That is massively undermined here. Let's see if Tom/Trent/Chip can do it again...this time from scratch.
