#49ers Justin Smith said piece of bone detached in his shoulder in 2013 training camp and lodged in back of it. Started 16 games. Happened going against Mike Iupati.

Ouch

Can you even imagine how tough that guy is??!! He's got a bone fragment that causes shooting pain in the shoulder that get's banged every single play and he goes an entire season with it.

UNBELIEVABLE!
Ya'll sad as f**k, but hell, the man is free. He didn't go out on the shield, Cowboy came back with it. Thanks for the memories, Justin. Happy Trails!

That's Jed's fault too . . . don't try to deny it.

A great 35 year old DT who has been getting double teamed and beaten up for years and has been playing in pain for two years decides his body can't take it anymore.

It was sadly predictable that there would be a few a-holes around here who would blame this on Jed or Baalke or Tomsula.

yeah, it's clear he was just beat to hell. shame to lose guys like him and Willis because their bodies just are not responding the way they once had. Well, maybe AA will get thrown into the fire a little earlier than expected...and i am ok with that. I don't expect him to start, but he could see valuable minutes now.

thank you, justin smith. You're an all time great IMO. But I'm glad you made the right decision and retire. I wouldn't want to play for this s**tty team too....

Hey look, your description of this team matches your fandom.
Happy retirement cowboy!

The most telling quotes from Justin Smith's retirement: 'For four years there, to walk into camp thinking you can win a Super Bowl was pretty cool'.
He no longer thinks it can happen anymore, hence yet another reason to retire. Go spin that sh*te!!
Not too surprising, but still a sad day nonetheless.

This era in Niners history will unfortunately be looked back upon as a series of blown opportunities, but it was a fun ride.

I remember being stoked when we signed him away from the Bengals in the 2008 offseason.

Thanks for the memories Cowboy aka Country.

Of course the quote the fits the preferred narrative is always the "most telling".

We failed to get Patrick Willis, Justin Smith, and Frank Gore a lombardi.

We should present all three with a ring after we win Super Bowl 50.

Feels like a Sacramento Kings fan from the early 2000s.
