Also interesting to listen to the broadcasters talking about how good the Bengals could be with players like Akili Smith and Peter Warrick, and then drafting Justin Smith. Cowboy was the only guy who panned out.

Ranks right up there with:

Kevin Greene
Garrison Hearst
Richard Dent
Ricky Jackson
Deion Sanders
Fill in the ________.

Changed my mind .. Cowboy was the best free agent signing ever!

Deion Sanders is still number 1. He won DPOY and got us over the top against Dallas to a 5th title. Smith is a close 2nd.

Shouldn't Fred Dean be on that list?...

Former San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith, who announced his retirement yesterday, went on 95.7 The GAME today and talked about his decision.

Smith said that everyone in the locker room loved Jim Harbaugh, but his departure did not factor into his decision.

He has all the faith in the world in head coach Jim Tomsula and the decision to retire was based solely on his recent physical inabilities.

He said that he has been trying to stay close to the 49ers organization, visiting with the team and even checking out the rookie minicamp.

He even stated that he may want to 'dip my toe into coaching' in a couple of years.

Smith also mentioned that the 49ers knew that he was leaning toward retirement, which likely didn't take them by surprise. Having known for some time, it very likely that the team had been preparing for his departure all offseason.

In two months his wife is going to be so sick and tired of him, come on back and coach up AA, JS!!!!!
Let's let Justin Smith's words regarding Tomsula sink in here and add strength to the argument that Smith didn't retire because of the coaching staff:

Smith said he watched as "the media had fun" with Tomsula during his introductory press conference.

"They kind of lit into him. I felt bad for Jimmy T," Smith said. "They tried to make him look like a meathead D-line coach. That's not the case. This guy is a cerebral guy. He knows the game inside and out -- offensively and defensively.

"Half the time we're talking defense in our defensive meeting rooms, we're talking about how the offense is trying to attack us. So he's got good knowledge of what the offense is trying to do -- special teams, all of it. We got a great coach and he's going to do fine and it's going to be fun to watch it.

"It's football. Players move on, coaches move on. You got to roll with the punches. I think they'll be fine. Like I said, I have all the faith in the world in Jimmy T."
HOFer

He made the entire team better, not just the defense. Congrats on a great career. Wish we could have closed out a SB championship for him.

Hold on, let me spin this KKFC-style!

Justin Smith finds humor in media making fun of Meathead HC, Jim Tomsula.

How's that?
Certainly no offense to Patrick Willis , an all time great too, but will miss Justin smith the most. Dude just dominated the line of scrimmage
Would love it if he could be some sort of defensive assistant and eventually get a ring with us as a coach.
