Mutual partexcuse
I don't think it was just the bad offense. I think it's pretty clear that Harbaugh is very hard to work with. We've already read stories about how Stanford officials were quietly relieved when he moved on to the NFL. And when I read that he took down some of the pictures of Niner greats in the past, I was shocked - wasn't this the same thing Joe Thomas did back in the day and alienated the entire staff in the process?
We'll find out how credible the offensive staff and system is in a few months, but I expect it to be better than last year for a variety of reasons that include coaching.

I've been saying it for at least a year! We need a head coach that can put our core strengths to use! When you have Johnathan Martin, a rookie center, an injured Vernon Davis, and an under-performing Boone and you can't put them into position to make plays.... well somethings wrong.
We need screens. RB screens. WR screens. Bubble screens. LT screens. FB sceens. Smoke screens. More screens. Screens all the way to the promise land!
And we have just the man to do it: Geep Christ. Look no farther than last years red zone offense and the prolific 2000 Chargers offense for justification.
Not enough? How about one of the best regional Sunday morning football radio shows in the Southeast US for three years counting. Yep. Filling the void left by Geep Christ.

Honestly, I can't remember where I read this, but it also was very surprising to me. It was one of the beat writers talking about the history of tense relations between Harbaugh and others in the Niner organization. According to the article, Harbaugh angered a number of people in the building right off the bat by removing some photos on the walls of former Niner players and coaches.

Huh. Weird, as I'd have expected JH to be more pro-history re: Niners. Ultimately a rather insignificant thing in the long run.

And they will pick up their shoes. All the while Jed York gets to keep dodging accountability,

Amen. Somewhere he's out there. Chasing big waves and the endless summer.

That was just the start of it. Pissed people off from the start and s**t adds up after that. We all know Jim is a raging maniac on the sidelines and a complete dickwad in interviews. It's not a character he puts on. It's who he is. Now imagine he eventually turns that toward the front office and they're like dude f**k you man, have just a tiny bit of respect here. Do I think they should have still been able to squash it out and go about their business? Hell yeah, but I still get why it didn't work out.

Yeah I remember hearing the same story, I think from Barrows on KNBR a few weeks ago.
Here's the thing: I think York has done a bad job recently. I don't approve of many of the coaching changes, I wish he had handled his internal business different (i.e.- leaks about Harbaugh). I think it comes down to what George Costanza said in Seinfeld about the Yankees to Steinbrenner: "In the past 20 years you have caused myself, and the city , a good deal of distress, as we have watched you take our beloved team and reduce them to a laughing stock, all for the glorification of your massive ego!"
But I really don't think a lot of the player movement this offseason can be blamed on him either. The Niners wouldn't overpay for people like Ipuati, Gore is obviously going to go where he gets more money as is Culliver. Willis I think was going to leave regardless and he deserves to leave the way he wants, Justin is older and retirement is of course an option. With Borland, I mean according to that FoxSports report, he had informed his family A YEAR ago that he probably would only play one year.
So blaming everything that's gone wrong in the offseason to him and the fact he let Harbs go, I don't know how factual that is. It's a combination of things.
We had an aging roster, they are gonna be out the door at some point and there will be turnover no matter who the coach was. Also, the team is not the 2012 Superbowl team anymore. We don't have the same players with the same strengths. Forcing Kap to play the way he did last year (I know, it wasn't all coaching but f__k- they certainly didn't do him any favors. I found it ironic that we bench Alex Smith for the guy to get a more mobile QB then eventually force him into the exact same offense. Obviously that wasn't going to work). So not adjusting was a big part of our problem.
The point is, the guy has truly p*ssed me off but I think this all would have happened regardless and hopefully they finally do learn to adjust the team to the current players strengths. Here's optimism anyway.
