Yeah, I think Jed, the owner, gets lumped into the rest of the FO re: "football." As an owner, he's already accomplished more than 85% of the owners during their entire tenure and he's still very young. Mistakes? Sure, regarding PR but he's going to learn from that (esp. with regards to KKFC). I measure an owner by what he actually has control over.
As far as football goes, given the amount of coin he shelled out for the most expensive coaching staff in the league including 15 offensive coaches AND a "secret consultant" to help Roman out this past off season, as an owner, I'd expect better offensively too. Didn't you as a fan after the Superbowl? In the end, Jed did what good owners do...he went with his GM over the HC and subsequently hired additional support for Baalke in Tom Gamble. Aside from the first interview with each HC candidate, he stayed the hell out of the process and let his GM do the work...as he should. Fans forget that letting Harbaugh and staff go was also an entire FO move...unlike Eddie D. who'd fire a HC b/c he "felt like it" after each and every loss on the field. And to me, that's the bottom line...clearly HaRoman were in over their heads, completely figured out, had no answers, had a significant downward trend, players were complaining, the opposition was mocking us, etc...in short, the production on the field did NOT match the resources put into it...no ROI.
I applaud any FO who has the balls to make a difficult decision. It was time. Everyone knew it. The players, the waterboy and even Baalke's daughter. Every fan in here knew it too...even if we did like Harbaugh for his past accomplishments. We as fans can wallow in the past...as 49er fans, that's what we do. But a FO has the respponsibility of assessing the team now and well into the future. They made a move and I can only that.
Personally, I'm excited about this new coaching staff, the continuity, the experience, Tomsula's infectious personality, the excitement within each 1on1 staff interview, the players (VD, Justin & Boldin), etc. And if the results on the field don't match the resources out into it, I'm excited about an ownership who at least, has the balls to make a move AFTER they've exhausted every option/solution.
As fans, that's all we can ask for.
