Let me just get this straight. Was Jed York negotiating on behalf of the city or the football team? And is this forum the home of 49ers supporters or of the residents association of the city?

So if the deal was bad for the city, the team's supporters are complaining that Jed York is unfair to the city of SC? Or is it just that any stick no matter how ridiculous will do when people want to beat Jed York?

Part of why I stopped posing in this thread was because of what you have said. I'm not against Jed York, and power to him if he did get a great deal out of this. But as an accounting major I've glanced over the documents and read some economist's take on the financial situation of the stadium. All I'm saying is that whoever negotiated on behalf of the city (whether it be a person or committee) need to read more closely next time.
Nothing against York, and nothing against the city.

I just hope that they can meet and exceed the expected revenues the original loan suggested they would. I'm not saying this would turn SC into Detroit, just simply stating it was a bad business decision (again, my opinion).
Jed didn't move the 9ers to SC to maximize revenues. He moved the 9ers to SC because SF only plan involved building a stadium on a toxic waste dump with absolutely zero infrastructure to accommodate an NFL stadium.

And even that plan couldn't get approved by the city. lol

This isnt an big issue... 12 million can easily build new parks and 3 million going straight to the school is a win win agreement.

Seems like it is big issue...

Much ado about nothing...they offered to pay fair market value AND build new fields at local schools for public use. Would have been a win/win and is now a political football being used by a former mayor to bash the current mayor. Now if they had purchased mineral rights for $500 and began drilling for oil during a youth soccer game...

Ditto.

This is a political issue when you cut through it. Most likely, some council member wants to be mayor someday. It should be more about getting together, talking, and solving a problem. But that's not the lesson I see here for the kids. It's that taking shots at the rich guy is more important than talking and thinking things through. Kind of reminds me of:

Sssshhh. We promised not to mention that.
At this point Jed has pretty much been fitted with a black hat and is the villain in any media story.

Now where exactly in Santa Clara can you find and buy a similar property to build three replacement soccer fields for the so called 15 million fair market value? Good luck on that. Their is considerable debate of if that 15 million dollars is fair market value or not if the fields were put on the market. The deal fell apart when it was moved from a back room deal to one in the light of public discussion. If it is so easy then the team should go out and buy land for a similar soccer field configuration and then do a land swap with the city for that particular location.

The 49ers proposed the league using fields owned by the school district. That fell through because the school district would not agree. They were not willing to give up any control of their fields for soccer league events and scheduling. Even if they had approved those fields are spread out throughout the school district that makes it impractical to run any kind of tournament event. Very different then having three fields right next to each other as they are today,
It's just so precious that some Niner fans are more concerned about where Santa Clara soccer moms are going to take their grade school kids to "play soccer" than they are about how well Levis Stadium is going to work out for the Niners.

You don't see that kind of thing in other fan bases. We're special.

Much more important that these kids get to pretend they're playing soccer on the specific field they wish to than it is to work out parking and traffic issues with a business that will bring $50 million in extra business to Santa Clara sometime later this year.

Typical politics between municipalities and school districts...which no doubt has their hand out to approve any new fields on their property. `In another area, the school field down the block is used all week for various school teams and then on weekends by youth and adult soccer. It works because everyone got together and decided to maximize use, rather than exert control. It's a touchy situation because there is maintenance required when more people use a facility but I'm sure some of the millions the 9ers were willing to pay would go a long way toward maintenance for facilities.

The idea that the 9ers purposely or calously ingored public need in the neighborhood they chose to move to...just not likely. But it's a much better story than...9ers work out use of facilities for everyone's benefit.
