I agree Vernon Davis is the Barry Sanders of TE's!!!
What the hell is so funny about Vernon jumping straight up for the TD. He didn't want to risk getting stuck at the 1yd line. I thought the TD was Bad Ass!!!

He should have ran the dude over instead of trying to get fancy

But being fancy is what VD is all about! He's a fancy artist too!

Cut his legs and make him come down on his head/back so he possible fumbles. VD bobbled the ball a little when he went airborne.

Rewatch the tape, he didn't bobble the ball he wasswitching his grip he was going to stretch out the ball then decided he better tucj it back in. If you hit the ground in the end zone and cough up the ball it is not a fumble it is a touch down.

The giants Phillips is not a small guy by any means, yes smaller by about 30 lbs, but 6-2 220+lbs. VD was near the side line and he could have been hit outside the sideline. He also might have made it by lowering his shoulder, but Phillips had the angle, it was not a straight on hit/angle from the front, plus VD was not going to be denied since he hasn't had many touches this seasons.

What this has shown is that VD has serious hops. Don't be surprised in a goal line formation whether heavy left or right, they set him in motion then at the snap, the backs go one way on a fake pitch, but he takes the hand off on a dive over the top. This will cause the linemen and LB to move side wars and if he goes over the top, have a hard time stopping his momentum foward.

That 2 pts play was pretty good. Crabtree came out of that cluster wide open. They lined him up at the RB position and went in motion

Pretty good throw from Smith with all the traffic in front of him.

I didn't see this play, but as you guys have described it, it really is straight out of the Walsh playbook. He had Rice lined up as a RB before and the LB's were tripping over each other and pointing, not knowing what to do.

I was re-watching the game on NFL Rewind and I had total deja vu after that touchdown as while all the other 49ers players were celebrating, Alex Smith was running down the field with two fingers in the air, trying to hurry up and get everyone lined up....total Steve Young kind of focus and look on his face.......

That's because he was probably told by coach Harbaugh ahead of time, that if we score we're going for two and here's the play! Something that would've taken Singleberry 5 mintues and 2 timeouts to figure out.

Jumping was a smart move. His momentum was still carrying him, and knowing Vernon's leaping ability, this would make it easier for him to stretch the ball across the goal line if the defender went for his legs. Vernon jumping froze the defender and changed the safeties hit trajectory. With Vernon's momentum (speed X mass), there was no way Phillips would stop him at the point of contact because the safety would be trying to both pull Vernon down to the ground and knock him to the side instead of just one of the two.

Or, Vernon is 255 running full speed at a 220lb dude equals truck/concussion/TD and that FS not wanting to hit anyone the remainder of the game.

One thing is for sure, Vernon REALLY needs to learn how to run when he has the football in his hands. Unless it's wide open straightaway, he really doesn't do very well in traffic.
If he tried to run the guy over he easily could have been knocked out of bounds. I think he did the safest move to ensure a touchdown in his mind.
