The really funny thing is that when my wife and I were at the game. Saints fan were calling us band wagoners, but they couldn't name more than 5 players on the team.

Yes, all bandwagon fans travel to visitor's stadium's to see their team play

I always say the more the merrier, some of them help add numbers to those faithful takeovers at opposing stadiums.
I went to a game there with a group of 200 Niners fans in 1996. I had a hat on with the 5 SB logos that we had won. One Saints fans looked at it and said "It don't hardly seem fair. Ya'll got 5 rings and we don't even have one". We then proceeded to stomp them while their fans were wearing the bags over their heads.

I know lots of them. It doesn't bother me that they are bandwagon fans but I also hope that it doesn't bother them that I wont sit and have a football conversation with them. I'll nod my head and say a couple of words but that's it because the same people would be cracking jokes just a few years ago...heck just last year.

Mostly though, it just sucks for them because they're not going to know how good it feels to go from the basement up to the top floor. Even if you became a fan during the 80's golden years and the older folks could call you a bandwagon fan because of it - if you've remained a fan since jumping on the wagon back then, well then you've ridden through some serious ups and downs- more downs than ups and you're going to be able to enjoy this season (and overall team turn-around) like no bandwagon fan will. They can cheer but they can't relate yet.

So if you're a new to the wagon, i certainly welcome you. The more the merrier and you can start being invited to the watch parties and the games and all that. You'll enjoy it now, but if you stick with it through the future dips as well, then someday you'll know the feeling that the faithful are experiencing now

Best regards to Mr WooLick senior, but I think there is one further point about bandwagoners which is being missed in this thread. Anyone who started supporting the team between 1999 and 2010 deserves your Father's respect. With a brief burst in 2001-2, we were terrible. A bandwagoner, in my opinion, is someone who taps into a team because they are enjoying success. With the strong implication that, when things get bad they will bail out.

I was joking. I am sure my dad has never used the term. He is about the team, not the fans and he isn't judgy.

Well, no one can call him a bandwagoner!
Agreed with D49.

What makes these wins, and these close games feel so great is because of the pain of so many losses in the last 4 seasons. It feels like that pain has paid off again.

But, as for the bandwagons, it is what it is. It happens with every team. Can't stop it. But just like D49 i just wouldn't have much of a convo since they typically don't know much.

All that matters is that i've stuck through this team through its worst times, everyone who knows me, knows me as the biggest niner fan they know. i like being known for that.
You sometimes can tell by their posts.

New posters who are quick to call a guy "trash' or some other slur who made a mistake or had a bad game.
I remember going to the bar and being the only guy who wanted to see the Niners on one of the TVs because they sucked so bad, so they would put it on a crappy little tv in a back room where II could wallow in misery in private. I started in misery in '78 when I was 10 and loved OJ Simpson being traded to us--that was a disaster and set us back years, but I also remember the decades of glory....and then sucking again, lol.

The real bandwagoners root for the Pats and the Crimson Tide....
The Saints fans were very friendly to the Niner fans when I went there but it was in 1996 when the Saints were terrible and the Niners were still riding high. Maybe they were all so friendly because they were half in the bag. Any of you that have been there know you can buy a cocktail about every 50 feet in that town. Even the shopping malls have cocktail kiosks and you see shoppers walking around with drinks in their hand.
Fan bases are usually created during times of success. There are so many options for entertainment in places like the bay area, that nobody wants to waist their time watching losing teams if you're not already a big time fan.

I say welcome aboard. Just don't get off when the tables turn.
The more the merrier, spend that $$ on our 49ers.
Love them, get as many in the wagon as possible!!! That's how you get a good away presence at opposing stadiums.
