If your going to move a gigantic takle to guard (boone) why not bring in a gigantic guard to push him/ mentor him a little bit...if boones not ready we can start Leonard....win win situation

Maybe they brought in Davis to prove to the Zoners that -- yes-- 6'6-6'7 guys can play guard and played well.

Fun game.
I watched him played and gave up when someone sacks to Romo's QB "cowboys".. Leonard Davis is played well.. But i am not sure...

We don't want to get away from all of the clever pull blocks we run. Boone, if he's as quick now as I expect, would be excellent in this regard. I don't suspect that big Leonard will be able to pull block effectively. However it goes, can't hurt having LD in camp to compete.

Jim Harbaugh said the plan was to give Davis practice repetitions at both right and left tackle.

Davis as a OG? Yes. As a back-up OT? Uh, well, I'm not so sure.
I can't figure out anything we're trying to do at RG. I guess Harbaalke is trying everybody everywhere just to see who can do what.
But you're right, I can't imagine a 375lb Davis moving his behind fast enough to deal with DE's off the edge.

Either that or he's flat out lying to the media.

I don't see why he would do that. It would be silly, IMO. What teams are going to be "fooled" during the regular season by lying about who is playing where? The preseason games are what teams will look at, not reports out of training camps.
I think Harbaalke does not want to make any assumptions. If he wants to give Leonard Davis a look at T, TE, WR, S or whatever, fine, get it out of his system.
I mean look at Miller, he made a huge position switch, so why not push the standard assumptions just to see if it could work?

not to thrilled with this signing since i see the team as fairly disciplined and davis is a high draft pick bust and a very penalized ol. not for sure what he brings to the table except veteran mediocrity.

You're right. That comment didn't make much sense. Not sure what I was thinking when I wrote it.
Anyway, I'm not suprised that Harbaugh is going to try him out everywhere on the line to see where he fits best (if at all), but my best guess is he'll be the starting right guard when its all said and done.

Really hope they can gel quickly this season and help the offense to off to a much faster and more aggressive start!

agree. I know some can always trace thier woes early to alex but that line play was god awfull for 3/4 of the year. yes we are probably better off without two of those players but we just can not "hope" that the deletions of them will make us better and we "hope" the untested one and the kids can do the job, thus there was a real strong need to bring in a vetern who could do a very respectable job for us for a year untill some of the kids grow up and our draft pick with a broken foot heals up(i am still a bit upset the coaches could not find someone other than a guy who had a broken foot to draft)
