What to do with Colin Kaepernick???

The longer Kaep sits the more he learns. I am ecstatic that we dont have to force him in early. Kid is plutoneum grade raw material, but he is going to take some seasoning. the arm makes all the throws, but the eyes dont make all the reads yet. Ideally he is patient enough to take the Rodger's path and watch and learn for a few years. The only way I see him getting in sooner than later is if Smith starts itching for more money than we want to pay, or Smith really tanking it in the second half of the season. If that happens then I am content to let Alex walk, put Kaep in and draft another kid to develop. Alex is ideally suited to our game plan when he plays within himself and doesnt push things...no need to crush Kaep's development and force things too early.
Bro,

Alex Smith is probably going to be our quarterback for another decade+, or until his skills start to degrade in his late .30s. This is a long, long time away.

I think the org would *like to trade Kaep with a year left on his contract, but he could very well walk like Matt Flynn did.

I don't Think its inconceivable that we trade him in the upcoming off-season and draft a guy in the middle rounds as a career backup.

you guys need to heal old wounds. He has coaching now, and he looks like a guy who was drafted in the first round (not necessarily #1 overall). Cut this crap out.
Its not crap... Alex is playing very well and if read any of my posts ever I am clearly a fan. But his contract is short, and we invested a second rounder in Kaep. This is a very viable conversation. No need to be condiscending. Sure I could see Kaep being shipped out if we can get something nice for him, but I dont think you throw that kind of potential away for free, and lets face it...its entirely possible after this season the Alex thinks, possibly rightly so, that he is worth more than we are paying him. With our cap situation, if our front office thinks we can get similiar results with Kaep....Alex may not be here forever.
trade him for Tebow, we could use the help on special teams
terrible poll is terrible
Hand him a clipboard, and tell him to stand next to coach.
Cuz smith is insecure and plays poorly if he has a legit backup.

We need to bring in guys like osullivan, troy smith and david carr so smith can look around and say" yeah im the bestest!"

Neither.

Keep him as backup and reassess each year to make sure we are starting the best player.

Agreed.

No, its a ridiculous assertion. It would be a huge risk to start kaepernick, and you're only saving money for one year...if Kaepernick succeeds, you have to give him a fat contract. In the process, you risk destroying your offense.

ALEX Smith is only 3 years older than Kaepernick. Harbaalke wanted Andy Dalton and settled for Kaep...because Alex wasn't under contract.

kaepernick could be a star, but he's got significant drawbacks. He has a throwing motion that no starting QB in the league has. Guys with atypical mechanics don't past long. Also, his on field decisionmaking is questionable and immature.

check your biases at the door please.
I hate to use any analogy from the history of the dallas cowboys ...but CK can pull a Danny White, and wait until his turn comes ....too bad Kap cant be the punter until Alex is ready to hand the job over

Wow. Ok...
Anything can happen.

As to the question - keep Kap in the learning mode, get him snaps when possible and keep Alex in the driver's seat until it's time.

Again...no need to be insulting. Your obviously putting a tone to my words that simply isnt there. I never said start the kid over Smith. Not once. I said, we may not have the option to keep Smith due to money etc... Your the one who is biased and looking for things to over react too. I simply said you dont let Kaep walk for nothing, and we cant count on Smith being here forever. I clearly said its a nice luxury to have a back up with potential to start and its good for Colin's career long term to hold a clipboard. But by all means continue to be insulting and read things that arent there.
I think you guys are seriously underestimating Kaep, I don't get all the dislike for him. It has to be personal imo, because he hasn't won, lost, or even directly impacted a game in a negative way. Don't give me that Giants game bs either, there were three turnovers that decided that game for us. I'm not knocking Alex right here, but at least he has played in enough meaningful games for people to form opinions of him be it positive, negative, or somewhere in between(where I am at this point). Smh.

I agree with you. I don't get it either. I like how Alex is playing, support him, and am excited to have Kap there learning and growing as the backup QB. If someday he is the starter, great. If he isn't, oh well. People make crap too personal for some reason.
